General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe reason why some people dislike Bernie Sanders
is that he uses a lot of slippery slope arguments. But what if his fears that he is projecting now come true in the future? He is simply pointing out what the future may become based on certain decisions or outcomes. An erosion of freedoms is often cited because it is not something that happens quickly, but slowly and gradually. It is harder to accept a slippery slope argument if you haven't lived long enough to see the differences and changes over time that have taken place in our country. You can't compare what you have known with the past to what is in the current if all that you have known is the current paradigm of reality. Thus, Bernie Sanders is drawing upon his past experiences and memories of what America used to be, and stood for, and where we are heading today disturbs him.
And when Bernie Sanders points out the problems he is deemed as crazy, a doomsayer, or that crazy uncle you invite once a year for Thanksgiving. And yet, he can be ostracized every day, all day, and yet Bernie Sanders believes in what he is doing. This is because he sees that offering his knowledge is a public service. If he didn't care, or if he caved for the haters it would be easy, but he believes in the people of the United States.
It is as simple as that.

That's why they don't like him. He's a fly in the ointment of conventional politics. He says what he means and does what he says he will do.

You know who else critiques hair cuts? Right wingers. About Hillary. There is no end to right wingers posting "Hillary's hair cuts throughout the years."

I went for the good hair last time, but that didn't work out too well, so I decided to give bad hair a try this time.

Senator Sanders is a walking wedge issue. Of course teapublicans, being what they are, will throw all their demogoguery obstacles up. What's interesting is how the third-way types are in such a tight spot now that Mr Sanders is running and gaining momentum. It's hard for them to garner 99 percenter enthusiasm while staying close to GOP economic policies so as not to anger their corporate sponsors.
Then there's the angle of "none of the above" as the media lays it out: No more "he said/she said" horse race politics. Hard to cover for lazy vultures born and raised on the "if it bleeds, it leads" type coverage format in the media.

(15,512 posts)It strikes me as demagoguing or worse, but I think it's part of his "populist" appeal. Matter of taste I guess.

(114,904 posts)really engages. I've seen it up close over and over, at pot-lucks, town halls, and in his D.C. office. He's unscripted.
