Written on stone: Ed Milliband carves his campaign promises on an 8 foot slab

of limestone.

For whatever reason, this just makes me cringe.

Ed Miliband has commissioned a giant stone inscription bearing Labour’s six election pledges that is set to be installed in the Downing Street Rose Garden if he becomes prime minister.

The 8ft 6in-high limestone structure is intended to underline his commitment to keep his promises by having them literally “carved in stone” and visible from the offices inside No 10.

The Rose Garden was the scene of David Cameron and Nick Clegg’s famous press conference when they announced their coalition vows after the 2010 general election delivered a hung parliament.

It worries me that there must have been a discussion about this and more than one person said "great idea! Let's do it!".

But the introduction of a pledge stone sparked a spate of social media jokes, with photoshoppers working overtime to turn Mr Miliband into Moses and more than a few comparisons with BBC political drama The Thick of It.

('The Thick of It' was created by the gut who went on to create 'Veep')

My first thought was of 'W1A', a satire based in the BBC, where it's plagued by clueless PR people who come up with endless dumb ideas, and which just started its 2nd series.

which may not be for weeks yet, if we have a hung parliament with lots of negotiations for party agreements.

Still hope Miliband gets to be Prime Minister, though; much better than Cameron and his cronies! Even though it's giving me an earworm of that song, 'I beg your pardon/ I never promised you a rose garden'.
