It gets worse every day. If it were passed in Texas new law would force a woman to bear a nonviable pregnancy after 20 weeks or even a fetus that is severely malformed or disabled. These fools get worse every day.

(1,884 posts)Abortion is a private medical decision, not a political football, one oneupmanship, played by male religious fanatics in the state legislatures.

(9,457 posts)or so severely damaged (like the fetus without a brain) than it cannot sustain life outside the womb is the problem. I thinkit was Rep. Gohmert that said a fetus without a brain should be carried to full term because you never know what miracle God has in store.

Kinda demonstrates the fraudulence underlying Gohmert's position.

(10,602 posts)I have a case in point of some friends of our where the wife was older an had a child that was profoundly disabled. There was severe mental retardation and various other serious health problems that required 24 hour intense care. They took care of this chile for almost 18 years at tremendous expense. The child would NEVER be self sufficient and could not attend school.
As the child neared 18 they were going to lose Medicaide and medical support because the child would lose all services as that point. They had to have an aide in 2 or 3 time a day, plus the care they provided. They also had other normal children and the situation cause very extreme hardship on the family. And they were facing bankruptcy because they would have had to pay for all the care themselves.
The child died just before he turned 18 from natural causes, but could have lived for decades more. Plus there were some hospitalizations for severe illness that cost who knows how many thousands of dollars.
In some cases the disabilities are so severe that a family faces years of costly care. And the same politicians who support this legislation also want to end Medicaid and other forms of safety net programs.

(27,985 posts)Yup, abortion is becoming, dare I say, rare because access to it is being stripped and politicians are playing doctor.
Women and doctors are not monsters and can be trusted to make decisions without these meddling assholes. We need to remove every single legal barrier to abortion. Every one.
