Amendment One in North Carolina passes. You cannot be a selective civil rights activist. You either believe in rights for all or none.

A proposed amendment to North Carolinas constitution which would make marriage between a man and woman the only legal union recognized by the state has passed a statewide vote, the Associated Press reports.
The referendum- North Carolina Amendment One- goes a step beyond outlawing same-sex marriage, which was already illegal in the state. The law decrees that marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State- meaning that civil unions and potentially other types of domestic partnerships will no longer be legally recognized.
With a little over 43 percent of precincts reporting, support for the amendment was strong- with about 61 percent of North Carolina voters casting their ballots in favor of the amendment, and roughly 39 percent voting against it.
There is some uncertainty among legal scholars in the state as to the extent of the law, and what types of partnerships might be affected, as the terminology in the amendment- domestic legal union- has not appeared in North Carolina statutes previously.

Anyway how the fuck can you have this in front of your church and still be exempt from taxes?????
The best attack IMO on all these loudmouths is push for taxation through legislation
even if it doesnt pass it would highlight the line has been broken and they should be taxed now

(13,062 posts)I always thought the purpose of a Constitution was to extend and protect people's rights; whereas the conservatives seem to think that a constitution is there to limit people's rights.
Look at the amendments these idiots have proposed: anti-gay rights, anti-flag burning amendments, an amendment to ban birthright citizenship, an amendment banning direct voting for Senators; an amendment repealing equal protection under the laws; an amendment repealing the right of people to have their government collect taxes.
If we can't even agree on what the purpose of a constitution is, how the hell are we supposed to live amicably in the same country????
