EAST HAVEN A state agency has again denied Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr.'s appeal to have his disability pension payments reinstated.
The agency says that when Maturo was in office previously, his pension was paid in error, raising the possibility he will have to pay back several hundred thousand dollars.
Maturo served as a firefighter in East Haven for about 17 years until he fell and suffered a herniated disc in his back in 1991. He then received disability payments from the Retirement Services Division of the Office of the State Comptroller uninterrupted until November 2011.
Maturo received the pension payments during his first tenure as mayor, from November 1997 to November 2007. .............(more)

An immigrants' rights group in East Haven delivered thousands of tacos to Mayor Jospeh Maturo's office the day after he made comments that many are calling insensitive.
After four East Haven police officers were arrested in a racial profiling case, Maturo said that he "might have tacos" for dinner in honor of the Latino community. ...............(more)
