Donnelly Praises Lugar On Bipartisanship, Slams Mourdock For Opposing Auto Bailout
Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) appeared Wednesday morning on MSNBC, as the Democratic nominee in his states Senate race, to comment on the defeat in the Republican primary of longtime Sen. Dick Lugar. And in the interview, Donnelly pitched himself as a moderate Blue Dog Democrats, and as agreeing with Lugar that there needs to be more bipartisanship.
Donnelly told Chuck Todd: Chuck, on numerous occasions he was extraordinarily helpful on issues like Iraq and Afghanistan, and actually sat with me one time you talk about the epitome of statesmanship, he said, Joe, I want to help you with Iraq and Afghanistan, if i can, any ideas I might have. He said, what we talk about is between you and me. Dont ever worry about that he goes, Its about our country.
Donnelly also went after Republican nominee Richard Mourdock, on his past legal attempts to stop the Obama administration bailout plan of the auto industry: When the president talks about issues like jobs and working together and listening to Hoosiers, Im all for that. The president helped with the auto industry effort. I was very, very helpful in that.
And it should be noted, Richard Mourdock tried to singlehandedly destroy the American automotive industry, which results in over 100,000 Hoosier jobs. He almost singlehandedly would have put our state in a depression, if he had been able to do what he wanted to do.
