http://www.csmonitor.com/Business/2012/0508/Pet-food-recall-2012-now-includes-39-statesDog food recall 2012 involves 11 brands of dry dog food manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods. 21 states, as well as Canada and Puerto Rico, are affected.
Business Wire/File
The Food and Drug Administration has expanded a national recall of Diamond Pet Foods dog food manufactured between Dec. 9, 2011, and April 7, 2012, from the companys manufacturing plant in Gaston, S.C.
The initial recall was put into place last month, after salmonella was found in batches of the companys dry dog food, according to the FDA.
No illnesses have been reported in dogs, but so far 14 cases of salmonella in humans have been found in nine states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Affected humans may have caught salmonella from handling the dry dog food and then handling their own food, or from cross contamination with utensils. The CDC is still investigating the outbreak.
With the expansion, the Diamond portion of the biggest pet food recall of 2012 now includes Puerto Rico, parts of Canada, and 21 states: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, and Virginia. The FDA warns that some packages of affected food may have been sold to additional states through online vendors.

(56,177 posts)1. So, South Carolina is the new China?
Was it 2007 with all the deaths from pet food manufactured in China and sold here? Could have been 2006.

the biggest pet bowl filled to the top -- hopefully that was just for the photo
A dog that size should be getting 2 cups per day or less
The over-filled bowl was for the photo shoot...also, that dog is a Small Munsterlander...
As long as I'm on a roll, the food pictured is NOT a Diamond product and this a stolen photo with a copy write. (Not that it's your fault, KurtNYC)

(14,549 posts)3. Here is the recall info detail
To figure out whether you have a recalled bag of food, check the 12-digit production code on the back of the package. Affected bags have a 2 or a 3 in the 9th digit place, and an X in either the 10th or 11th digit place. The FDAs example: FDE0204R 2X TS. Also check the Best before date, which ranges from Dec. 9, 2012, and April 7, 2013, on affected bags of food.

Not every bag is recalled. I checked mine and it is not recalled. Also Diamond has done this recall voluntarily; still no reports of illness in dogs. Diamond and their brands will take a big $$$ hit for this, at least in the short run, but they are being cautious and pro-active in this recall.
