Who else is running? I know it is too soon as President Obama has a lot of months to go!
Is Mr. Sanders planning to run as a Democrat? If only Ms. Clinton is running for the Democratic Party, then she might win!
On the other side of the pond, Alberta swinged left and elected an NDP majority. Cannot wait for Harper and Christy Clarke to go!
England too in a voting frenzy, if that Scottish Lady gain ground, it will change the politics in the UK. I hope she gets a lot of votes to make a difference in the English Parliament!

(502 posts)There are two candidates running on the Democratic ticket that have raised over a million dollars.
Somebody should correct me on that if I'm mistaken.
Hey OP, perhaps you could edit your post and add a poll!

(11,619 posts)The DNC and Clinton welcomed him to the race. There will be more.

(5,704 posts)How come an Independent candidate can do that?

(62,269 posts)As far as I understand.

(23,156 posts)but most offices are partisan, including the governor's race. There are other states that don't require voters to register a party affiliation, either. But that's very different from an elected official not having a party affiliation.
Howard Dean has been a Democrat for all or most of his adult life.

(11,619 posts)They also have a Republican Party and a Progressive party.
If you check out their state, elected Democrats control the state legislature.
And Senator Leahy of Vermont is a Democrat.
In primaries, citizens must chose a party that they will vote for.
In Presidential Primaries, their choice is recorded.
I see this everywhere and it takes only a little time to find out that they do have Democrats in Vermont.

(53,661 posts)If Bernie doesn't agree with the Democratic platform for 2016, I have not seen it detailed. Many Democrats, especially older ones like myself, see him as a regular Democrat despite the label of being an Independent.
He caucuses with the Democrats in the Senate. Even though there are some differences in our party regarding non-Democrats running, he's no different than us. He's more of a Democrat than any small party.
But then I am not interested in the technicalities or legal points if the philosophy is the same. To me he picked the Democratic Party to run with for good reasons.

(53,031 posts)Know what else I heard? They are considering letting people who aren't on DU vote in primary. Can you imagine that?!

(146,286 posts)Not even close. DUers won't be choosing the Democratic nominee. Sometimes we forget that.

(14,341 posts)DU went for Kucinich in 2008.
Overwhelmingly.
So there's that...
MineralMan
(146,286 posts)but he was never a real possibility as President. I love Bernie Sanders, but I'm afraid he's extremely unlikely to prevail in the Democratic primaries, either. I'll caucus for him in Minnesota's caucuses, but I very much doubt he'll get much traction here, either. More's the pity.
Politics is about political reality.
