He lost because he was old, complacent, lazy & out of touch.
He is of the former republican party. There is a new batch of "republicans" and they have changed the party. They claim to not believe in evolution, but they sure do understand Darwin.
As a group, they are targeting the old/weak/less-attentive ones in the herd, and the cull has begun.
I saw it starting in 2009, and I do not see it lessening. The ones they cannot scare into retiring, will be primaried and taken down with each election cycle.
Democratic leadership had better be paying close attention, or they will end up with a real mess down the road
