The way it is with all the welfare red states, and the opposite of all the productive blue states that get back far less than they pay to the government, like California.

This case is particularly weird. Mass hysteria is a real phenomenon, and this seems to be ideologically-produced and a threat to national security.

The first outbreak of the bubonic plague in Europe brought about the immediate burning of the Jews, because that is how Europeans of the day were programmed by their churches. These people have the same programming, but are better armed and haven't been really triggered yet.

They're just itching for it. Dreaming about the dramatic end of the movie where all the teabilly ammosexuals rescue the world from the clutches of the gay-married single payer healthcare advocates. (Gasp!)

Only that's not how it's going to end.

Really. What I thought was surely a settled matter after the Civil War turns out to be far from over in way too many people's minds.

Add to them the religious wackos who are eagerly waiting for the thousand years of chaos and bloodshed that's supposed to coincide with the Second Coming of Christ, and we seem to have God knows how many Americans who are personally locked and loaded.

Yikes.

32. Texans get new via rumors
Fri May 8, 2015, 09:57 PM
May 2015

Since the dawn of man, rumor, superstition and fear have ruled the ignorant. Yes, we are seeing the same premise alive and well in Texas today. Texas is not alone. Still today, we see in some African counties, witch hunts, men thinking that they can cure AIDS by having sex with a virgin and eating body parts from albinos, will cure a disease. Back water rural communities, blame natural disasters on certain groups (even here in the US!). All of these folks suffer from extreme ignorance ... just as humans did 1500 years ago. Knowledge takes a lot of effort, access to information and a trust in those that are educated (SCIENCE !) is essential. But these poor Texas folks do not have clue. They are stuck in the age old form of information known as, RUMOR. But, they are worse because they have access to every form of information with just the click of a computer. Soooooo stupid, it is shocking!

Feels great to direct that much blanket hatred against an entire state, to just lump the entire population into a crudely-drawn editorial cartoon, right? Cloaking yourselves in self-righteousness and ignoring the fact that over 3 million Texans voted for Obama in both 2008 and 2012? Ignoring the feelings of the loyal Texas Democrats who show up at DU for a little support, and instead get repeatedly shit upon, in threads like this one? Glad to be of some entertainment value to you. Oh, and by the way: Texas isn't seceding from the U.S., and I'm not seceding from DU. Fucking deal with it.

I am not sure if the region-bashing around here is more frustrating or more embarrassing. In either case, it is bigotry, plain and simple. Bigotry that used to not be allowed, but for some reason, is now ok.
