For her summer concert in Washington, perhaps Taylor Swift can change her lyrics to: Ive got a blank check, baby, and Ill write your name.
Joining the screaming tweens in her D.C. audience will be politicians, and their deep-pocketed donors.
Sure, it costs less than $60 for the cheap seats to see Tay-Tay sashay at Nationals Stadium in July. But for just a little more money you can attend the concert AND sit with a member of Congress.
At least four lawmakers have planned fundraisers at her upcoming concert, according to two invitations obtained by the Loop and two by The Sunlight Foundation. For $2,500 a pop you can enjoy the show with Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.), Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.) or Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-Ill.).
But! If youre not partisan, and youre looking for a bargain, you could always go sit in the Rep. Steve Stivers (R-Ohio) suite. Hes offering a discounted rate of $1,500 per ticket. And for $2,500, you can bring a friend.

I spent my last dollar I'm ever going to spend on politics of any kind long ago.
I'd give everything I have for a term-limit scheme that forced a complete turn over of ALL 537 of them every six to eight years.

AND - you have already been given a quid for your quo! Plus you can tell the politician what you really think!
Not a bad idea, IMO.
Just wanted to add - perhaps the only time a non-1%er can actually get something for their contribution.

(100,038 posts)Still doesn't make it any less OK than a $50,000 a plate dinner, but there's an IRS code that states that a gift donation like this is an item that one doesn't have to pay taxes on. So they're getting away with it because they don't have to pay taxes on a lavish item like this. Again I'm not the least bit in favor of this, I'm just stating the facts here.
