Should President Walker or President Bush have Trade Promotion Authority?

Trade Promotion Authority lasts for years and it's NOT just that it dictates that Congress vote aye or nay on free trade agreements- of which there are 17 actively in the works. The TPA governs a lot of fta content and negotiating goals. Many experts consider the current tpa to be flawed. You can find analysis of the tpa legislation here from Sean Flynn of American University- a widely recognized legal expert on trade.

But I digress, my main point is that if the Congress grants Trade Promotion Authority to President Obama, it also grants it to future Presidents over the next several years (I believe it's 8).

I know that many HRC supporters are convinced that there is no way that she'll lose. I am not so sanguine. And I feel that way about any potential democratic nominee.

So, just imagine, all those ftas in the USTR pipeline and President Walker or President Bush.

Enjoy that thought.
