Ron Paul: Black lawmakers oppose war because they want the money for food stamps

http://www.salon.com/2015/02/24/ron_paul_congressional_black_caucus_opposes_war_because_they_want_to_spend_money_on_food_stamps/

Former Texas congressman and three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul has long been one of the most vociferous opponents of interventionism in American foreign policy, but the libertarian-leaning conservative has some harsh — i.e., racist — words for some of his allies in that fight.

In an interview earlier this month with Lew Rockwell — flagged today by BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski and Megan Apper — Paul asserted that members of the Congressional Black Caucus oppose military intervention abroad because they’d rather spend funds on food stamps than war.

“I was always annoyed with it in Congress because we had an anti-war unofficial group, a few libertarian Republicans and generally the Black Caucus and others did not — they are really against war because they want all of that money to go to food stamps for people here,” Paul told Rockwell.

Paul proceeded to criticize Black Caucus members as ineffective advocates against war, arguing that too many of them voted for sanctions against U.S. adversaries, which Paul said “never get the results that they thought there were going to get.”

He is totally not racist.

Setting aside the fact that this is racist as fuck. Isn't that what MOST Americans want? What kind of person would rather that their tax dollars go towards terror and mayhem instead of feeding it's needy citizens?!

ETA: Disclaimer, yes I receive food stamps, but even if I was well off I would never be opposed to funding assistance programs to other people in need.

Even if you just look at food stamps versus war spending purely from the perspective of which will stimulate our economy more, spending on food stamps wins hands down. Every $5 spent on food stamps generates $9 in economic activity.
http://www.ers.usda.gov/topics/food-nutrition-assistance/supplemental-nutrition-assistance-program-%28snap%29/economic-linkages.aspx#.Uinw1zaTg0M
Whereas military spending is less effective at creating jobs than virtually any other form of government activity. http://nation.time.com/2011/09/21/study-federal-spending-on-defense-doesnt-create-as-many-jobs-as-education-spending/

I would even go so far as I would rather see the money go to poor people for frivolous things (free flat screen tvs for everyone), it's still better than bombing people. I would rather give everyone a pony. I can't think of anything we could give people that wouldn't be better than bombing people half a world away.

I will freely admit I would rather see the money spent on war spent on domestic priorities. i would also be willing to grant Paul a chunk of the broad tax cuts he wants on one simple condition: that if the assets of the upper 1% continue to grow faster than the media assets of US citizens that we would impose a direct, progressive tax on those increased assets at rate of 1-4%/year. Where Paul's economic theories deviate from reality-and classica economics-is his claim that his tax cut policies will improve the economic welfare of the clear majority of US citizens. According to Ed Wolff of NYU the only to improve their financial condition since 1980 are the upper 1%-folks with more than $5 million in assets.
