Allen West Got Sharia Law’d at a Wal-Mart (not The Onion)

West was alerted to danger when he and his daughter approached a checkout lane with a sign declaring “No alcohol products in this lane.” The cashier’s name? “Let me just say it was NOT ‘Steve,’” West wrote.

" I pointed the sign out to Aubrey and her response was a simple question, how is it that this Muslim employee could refuse service to customers based on his religious beliefs, but Christians are being forced to participate in specific events contrary to their religious beliefs?

…Imagine that, this employee at Walmart refused to just scan a bottle or container of an alcoholic beverage — and that is acceptable. A Christian business owner declines to participate or provide service to a specific event — a gay wedding — which contradicts their faith, and the State crushes them."

Alas, this is not Sharia creep just yet. West spoke to a Wal-Mart representative, who informed him cashiers under 21 were prohibited from ringing up alcohol and tobacco products — ironically a puritanical-sounding restriction.

I'm sorry, but if your faith precludes you from doing something a company you work for is providing, don't work there.

I understand the case here is that the employee was underage, but am making a larger point.

So, Allen West can go suck it... All of that shit is wrong!

And you still can't in much of Kentucky. But I guess it's now a city/county level law instead of a statewide thing. Actually in the county I grew up in you still can't buy alcohol at any time. I always laugh when they get their dander up about Sharia law.

Liquor stores, at least in some counties, cannot open on Sunday. Also, in some counties people have to wait until noon to buy alcohol from grocery stories.

In many states (including here in MN), one must only be 18 to sell alcohol (cashier, server, bartender) but must be 21 to legally purchase or consume it.

But I was not allowed to drink it, and had no interest anyway.

One time customers from my high school came in and they objected to being denied drinks. One recognized me and called me by name, so I had to talk to them. I explained I knew they were underage, as we were classmates (not friends, though), why they couldn't have drinks.

Because serving it to underage people was a serious liability. Vendors could lose their licenses for it right away.

So these guys had to back down their demands for drinks. But I'd never heard of cashier being restricted though. My experience was from many years ago.

Is it a recent thing? TIA.

What was funny was in reading those comments how quickly conservatives turned on Wal-Mart for doing something that they claimed they supported: filling a free-market need.

Also funny how this is the one thing that will get conservatives to bash Wal-Mart. Not unfair labor practices or anything like that.
