2nd Amendment Rally: Our Guns Today, Our Bible Next?
The right to keep and bear arms is never under siege, yet many Americans don't buy it. The NRA-ILA reports:
Tuesday, May 12, on the Capitol steps in Harrisburg, Second Amendment supporters, state lawmakers and pro-gun organizations will be holding the annual Second Amendment action day at 10 a.m. The keynote speaker will be Sheriff Richard Mack, former sheriff of Graham County, Arizona.
Remember Sheriff Mack? Richard Mack was the anti-Obamacare advocate who suddenly needed help paying his medical bills.
Former Arizona county sheriff Richard Mack, a fierce opponent of Obamacare and a leader in the "constitutional sheriff" movement, is struggling to pay his medical bills after he and his wife each faced serious illnesses...But he can still thank the ACA for being able to buy insurance. Without it, he and his wife would have pre-existing conditions that wouldn't be covered by any pre-ACA policy. And annual limits. And lifetime limits.
This Second Amendment rally features Mack as their keynote speaker, because by the high standards of rural Pennsylvania, he's a real patriot. Mack's courageous patriotism was demonstrated a year ago at the Bundy Ranch standoff in Bunkerville, Nevada. He vowed to put women on the frontline if federal agents started shooting during the ridiculous standoff. Bundy has yet to pay his $1.1 million in grazing fees to the federal government, more than one year later.
Sheriff Mack personifies the right-wing mindset that dominates rural America: people who are dependent on the government but unwilling to admit it; combined with a love of firearms, Jesus and an irrational mistrust of science. I suppose Sheriff Mack has to make a living somehow and these are just the people who want to hear his opinions.

(16,286 posts)Because they are stupid.
I mean stupid as in not good at math, not able to do two things at once, not able to use common sense ever.
It is truly embarrassing to live in the same society as they do.

I am not up to the task, but will settle for "fly-eating lunatic orcs" for lack of anything better.
I honestly cannot understand how people this dumb can wipe their asses if there aren't IKEA-like directions printed on each square of TP.

(18,866 posts)The only thing I can really come up with (I live with a lot of these people here in Missouri) is that most of them are really uneducated. And they just seem to grab onto any rumor that's circulating at the time.
If they do go to college they go to those Bible Colleges which are probably worse than the TV preachers.
I am constantly confounded by the pure stupidity of these people. They will believe anything.

Those come as close to explaining it as anything does. Basically a combination of fundy religulous idiocy, proud anti-intellectualism and equally proud ignorance of facts are the pillars of this "outlook." They don't know a damned thing but they sure believe to the marrow of their bones mountains of things that are provably untrue.

It's just one completely asinine thing after another.

Obama angers midwest voters with guns and religion remark
"They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."--Barack Obama
Those people were angry. Guess he made them liars.

No, this all springs from the GSL, (Gun Sales Lobby, formerly known as the NRA,) they just want to sell guns.
