Obama came out in support of gay marriage today.

I think that the best place to hold the convention is North Carolina. It makes Obama look braver and stronger if he is nominated in a state that voted the way NC did. It means that Obama can stand up to that part of his base that does not agree with him. It shows that Obama respects those people, but that he does not agree with them.

The Dems should not run from NC and give it to the GOP, we should go there and WIN NC in November.

Oh ... and if you plan to make this arguement, maybe you should indicate where the convention should be, hey, maybe California!!!!

Oh wait ... never mind ... can't be CA.

SO where do you propose it be held ... ??

But I'd actually pick a state with a greater need for the economic boost that the convention will bring. Maybe Arkansas, or Louisiana.

However, you (and others here) make a good point in that bringing the Democratic Convention to NC and then winning the state also makes a powerful statement.

Still, I prefer a direct and powerful smackdown of their vile bigotry, embodied in the major economic loss that would be entailed in moving the convention.

We can agree to disagree, but I'm still contacting the DNC to let them know my preference.

equably,
Bright

The planning and execution of the convention has already been in the works for many months.

And there are folk that have already reserved hotel rooms and purchased airline ticket.

To move the convention now would create a HUGE MESS.

This is why Obama did what he did today... to head off a very destructive fight with the base over convention venue.
