Obama Has Called Both Warren And Brown By Their First Names Before

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) chastised President Obama on Tuesday for calling Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) by her first name while criticizing her views on the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.

But as it turns out, Obama has called both Brown and Warren by their first names numerous times before.

Buzzfeed News pointed out three speeches in which Obama called Brown "Sherrod" -- in 2009, 2012 and 2013 -- while he was praising the senator.

Buzzfeed's Evan McMorris-Santoro also provided examples in which Obama referred to Warren by her first name, both before and after she was elected to the Senate.

And even Brown has called Warren by her first name.

He should have stuck to backing his collegue on the POLICY differences, as opposed to throwing shade at Obama and trying to accuse him of sexism--that was just a cheap shot. Warren doesn't need anyone to ride to her rescue--she can, and does, take care of herself. She can throw an elbow with the best of them.

It's a bit uncomfortable for him when he's found to have done the very thing he's decrying in others. He'd do well to just back away from his remarks, "regret" if not apologize for them. It was a stupid thing to say, and all it did was change the conversation from the policy differences to a bogus "sexist" accusation. A total fail, really.

wiggle away with a "regret my choice of words" type-remark, that he didn't want to make it "personal."

He's tone deaf on this one. His wife has feminist credentials, and maybe he doesn't want to appear to be backing away from an idea that might have come from her...who knows?

The longer he hangs on to his portrayal of Obama As The Sexist Black POTUS, the longer he distracts from the argument that SHOULD be taking place--the issue of the policy difference between EW and BO.

He didn't need to ride to the rescue--just doing that could be construed as "benevolent sexism." Warren is no delicate flower, fanning herself on the porch. She can throw a punch with the best of them.

He didn't help Warren, he didn't hurt Obama. He just derailed their conversation with HIS drama.

Took the focus off the policy difference--which deserves a hearing--completely. He dumbed down the conversation between them.

The guy may be a good Senator, and a good steward for his constituency, but he stepped in it --big-time squishy--on this 'un.

You have to REALLY screw up--like that other Brown...Scott-- to earn the rejection of your constituents. I think he's in touch in his state, and well-liked. I think his big gaffe here was on the national stage, not the local one.

He should just put this behind him, though, with one of those "I regret ..." type remarks. "I regret getting between my collegue and the President," or "I regret that my words distracted from the discussion..." ANYTHING. He doesn't even have to really say "I'm sorry I did a really cheesy, low-down thing and called you a sexist, there, Barack, giving the Republicans a glee-filled day as they mock all concerned in this major FAIL of a blurt of mine," but he's gotta do something that sounds conciliatory ... and then back the hell away from it!

I think he is a good legislator, but he really went around the bend to respond that way. Which shows that Obama hit the mark with his comments.

The country is now largely ungovernable by democratic means because of the population being dumbed down. People are spending time sniffing for faux offenses instead of activating their higher thinking.

Discussing the philosophies that drive the policies of elected officials and what is behind the stances, and knowledge of civis and the infinity variety of needs of the nation and all its people, has been lost. Without knowing these things, people fall into CT to create elaborate world views that soon organize in thinking like cult members.

It's where they stop thinking and just mutter the memes. As if they had just said new or valuable, when it's a repetition of the lies and distortions of the billionaire media, in all venues.

Discussion is out, principles and compassion are out, it's more like dogs sniffing each other and looking for a fight or an orgy. At this point, we are ripe for the installation of a dictatorship because people refuse to accept anything that varies with the voices in their head, which are not their own. JMHO.

The population IS being "dumbed down," and getting all "Team Sherrod" v. "Team Barack" v. "Team Elizabeth" (and I agree with you, they ALL bring something to the table) instead of intelligently discussing the policy differences at play just wastes everyone's time. Also, with so much cheerleading, it's hard to figure out what is truth and what is spin.

I think all of the money in politics just makes a bad situation worse, but the problem we have is this--the foxes are watching the henhouses and they've absolutely no incentive to safeguard the nation's chickens or eggs for We, The People.
