19 year old college student states the obvious at Jeb Bush town hall meeting in Nevada.
She had heard Mr. Bush argue, a few moments before, that Americas retreat from the Middle East under President Obama had contributed to the growing power of the Islamic State. She told the former governor that he was wrong, and made the case that blame lay with the decision by the administration of his brother George W. Bush to disband the Iraqi Army.
It was when 30,000 individuals who were part of the Iraqi military were forced out they had no employment, they had no income, and they were left with access to all of the same arms and weapons, Ms. Ziedrich said.
She's referring, of course, to one of the biggest blunders the Bush Administration ever made, when Paul Bremmer decided to fire the entire Iraqi army, most of whom were Suni. (And believe me, the list of blunders made by the Bush Administration in Iraq is so long that it's not easy to pick the biggest blunder.)
I believe Al Franken summarized that blunder better with a joke when he said that Bush told the Suni Army "You're all fired! Get out of here, and take your weapons with you!"
However, I can't really say it was George Bush that created ISIS. The neoconservative philosophy that you can bomb, invade, and otherwise bully people into behaving the way you want them to behave that created ISIS, Al Qaida and any number of other villains. When will we ever learn?

(17,599 posts)ISIS is not Al-Qaeda. And it's a pretty fundamental conclusion that GWB created ISIS by blowing up the institutions of safety, security, and civilization in general in Iraq, and especially for the Sunni in Iraq.

(764 posts)I read he was the defense minister for Saudi Arabia and was tasked with getting a group of militants together to do their dirty work. That group is now self supporting with the smuggling of oil.
That's why I honestly thought Obama called them on their sh!t lol

(81,210 posts)Glad you're here! Lovely bunch of people, 'eh? Sometimes I'm just at a loss for words. I hope jebbie never shakes off confrontations with informed young people. Or informed WHOEVER people. I hope his idiot brother hangs around his neck like a noose for the rest of his political life.
I was actually pleasantly surprised to see some dots prominently connected on MSNBC today. Chris Matthews, who I usually consider little more than a slobbering rube, NAILED one today. Topic: jeb bush, and his finally deciding to say he would not have invaded Iraq, knowing what he knows now. Nobody's been talking about this but by Jove Chris Matthews brought it up. Several times during his show. The discussion was - "well, is this really where jeb stands on Iraq now?" As in - "can we count on this being the REAL jeb if he gets in the White House?" Chris Matthews brought up that anybody with paul wolfowitz among his foreign policy advisors is NOT exactly suddenly gonna turn peacenik on Iraq. Far from it, I suspect.
I suspect paul wolfowitz is ITCHING to get back into power so he can finish what he started - desperate to be vindicated so that the world would be forced to admit he was right about Iraq after all.
Chris Matthews actually brought that up. Several times. I was impressed. Having paul wolfowitz on your foreign policy team means nothing but trouble. REGARDLESS what your words say.

(764 posts)Talk about riding the horse he took to church or however that goes. Wofie is a 10 ton rock around anybody he sides with. Sent me wondering if he even wants to win. I don't trust any of them but especially the Bush family.
Yeah Chris the spitter sometimes will not be quiet and let his quests talk but he is a democrat which is rare amoung news casters. Did you watch Rachel Maddow? I am going to catch her tonight.

Anyone would think he would be running away from his brother's horrendous record, not proposing a rerun of the disaster.

All those profits he made dealing with Adolf were the basis for the multi-million dollar Bush empire rising, and the ability for his son to rise in the establishment and become President, then his son, and now his other son has a shot.

(750 posts)So what America knows now, or what Bush knows now, it was a mistake to enter into war with Iraq.
That means America not only created more extremist, created huge amount of refugees, millions fled to Syria, which is unstable now.
The Bush Policy installed an illegal government in Iraq that prosecuted indicted and hung a leader of a sovereign nation grandstanding on cable news, all complicit by mainstream media.
Bush now marques America with an incredible embarrassment in political economic crime, identity theft, and profiteering via the military industrial complex.
Bush does not want to talk about the veterans legacy of post traumatic stress which is exampled by the highest suicide rate of American military personnel ever, not including the serious physical medical injuries advertised everyday on free air television begging for money because they cut veteran benefits.
Bush does not want to talk about the issues of war as a mistake because of the criminal elements of torture with Nazi type secret gulags, mercenary murders, and that modus operandi of Bush business partnership with the famous Arab terrorist family the Bin Ladens in sorted banking deals while all the while asking for Osama Bin Laden dead or alive then not caring about him is very telling as a complicit pact of treason.
