An eye opening thread from Free Republic on the TTP.

I know a lot of you don't read Free Republic and don't like to see it linked here, but their opposition to TPP may be a sign of a sort of agreement between both left and right that corporate power and government favoritism for those corporations in this country may have reached critical mass:

““These folks have been proven wrong time after time after time,” Sanders said in a speech on the Senate floor Tuesday. “The TPP would force American workers to compete against desperate workers in Vietnam who make 56 cents an hour. We have got to do better than that.”

geez, my world is upside down. I’m agreeing with Sanders.

And that is how you try to begin to win people over - educate them. With the truth.

Any attempt to spin this as Sanders is a Freeper would be considered hilariously pathetic.

loathing of President Obama, extreme xenophobia (They're afraid that it will somehow open the doors to floods of immigrants) and all their all around nativism. I do think that FR now represents a fair chunk of the Republican base, however.

is thoughtful or well grounded. Some of it is as emotional and clueless as those supporting it. (and I sure haven't seen that you've immersed yourself in the minutia of it), but I haven't seen opposition to it rooted in racism or xenophobia or racist hate of the President. I personally don't care for suggestions that he stands to benefit personally from the TPP via vague big payoffs post-Presidency, but I don't think believing that indicates hate of the President.

You are saying that ALL of us here opposing this are basing our opposition to it on xenophobia or racism or racist hate toward the President or just plain hate for the President. That's not only false, it's a disgusting charge.

Do tell me, is the NAACP racist and xenophobic? They oppose it.

And put up or... yeah that. Link to threads where those racist, xenophobic sentiments are expressed. That's not calling anyone out.

You haven't just removed all doubt, you've gone a great deal farther than that in revealing yourself.

congrats.

He could adopt the entire Republican platform and the denizens there would still want all their senators and representatives to oppose everything he does.

hate Obama with a blind rage. I'm not even sure I think this is about one trade agreement anymore,I think corporations may have overplayed their hand in a country that wants to go back to producing goods and wants cheap products to buy,we won't get both. I'm not sure what the answer is,but corporations constantly threatening to take their business elsewhere if their demands aren't met isn't playing well here and this is the backlash. Who knows what that backlash will produce.

Now that the Senate has reached a deal to advance legislation key to wrapping up President Barack Obama’s trade agenda, pro-trade groups are quickly turning to the House, where the trade bill faces problems not just with Democrats but also a sizable number of tea party Republicans.

... where most Democrats and as many as 60 Republicans are likely to oppose the legislation to fast-track the passage of trade agreements

http://www.politico.com/morningtrade/?ml=tp

redstate/tea party republicans are all over this. It may have reached 'critical mass' indeed.
