If you follow the DU link that talks about the Most Popular Democratic Websites (a list from 2006), you get a list that a DUer posted from COMMON DREAMS of the top 25 sites. DU is 4th on that list, but AIR AMERICA RADIO, the Village Voice (really?), and of course, the pubisher of the piece, COMMON DREAMS (which they rank first) are ahead of them.
I don't think DU is top of the pops anymore. It's still a well trafficked site, but it's a niche market.

(38,414 posts)It is very hard to know...I bet we are in the top 5 no matter how you count. I have noted that the traffic here has picked up. So many posts in the discussion group at the same time. This site does really reflect the true feelings of progressives in this country. And, because it really is anonymous, most of the people posting are average people involved in politics in one way or another.

That old DU post from nine years ago provides a list of what was, way back then, the 25 most popular Dem sites. On that Common Dreams list, way back when, DU was number four and they named themselves as Number One. I don't think that's still operative.

(37,457 posts)I think Limbaugh et al certainly do.
DU is much more representative of the left than the Democratic Party, to me. It always has been. Before 2009, we had common cause against the evil Republican Party. Now, we differ on many things, even within the ranks of the party. The left and the party do overlap, but as you can see, many are not in the party and many have no desire to be in the party. Which is totally cool. As long as we keep R's out of office, I'm happy.
