Fox News Channel To Feature Comedy, Parody In New Greg Gutfeld Show
Fox News Channel is often the subject of critique by hosts of satirical programs like The Daily Show. Now, the network will launch a program that features monologues and parodies all its own.
The 21st Century Fox-owned outlet said it would launch a comedic news hour on Sunday nights hosted by Greg Gutfeld. The Greg Gutfeld Show will debut on May 31st at 10 p.m.,and will feature parodies on current events, conversation on key issues and signature monologues showcasing Gutfelds eclectic humor, the network said Thursday. Gutfeld is also expected to interview newsmakers, culture critics, and media personalities on major headlines of the week. Joanne Nosuchinsky, a Fox News contributor, will provide offbeat reports and commentary on the program.
Gutfeld, a former editor of Mens Health and Stuff magazines, is expected to continue as co-host of the Monday-to-Friday talk show The Five and to make appearances on Fox News OReilly Factor.
The anchor had been hosting a wee-hours program on Fox News called Red Eye, that ran between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. from 2007 until late February. Fox News said a rotating group of correspondents would continue to lead that program for the time being.

(17,469 posts)conservatives suck at satire, since it is indistinguishable from their reality.

(135,425 posts)Sunday at ten is The Golden Hour, where people without DVRs panic and wonder what show they'll watch, assuming they have "On Demand" and can get the shows they miss later. Will it be Masterpiece? The latest gem from AMC? HBO, Showtime, Starz? The Good Wife? So many choices, so little time!!!

(135,425 posts)I have never seen that show or the Redeye one, so I can't speak compellingly, but I do remember a thread on Old DU about that 12 Hour News Hour show, and it was nothing short of an evisceration!

(1,560 posts)I caught the first few episodes just to see how bad it would be, and it sure didn't "disappoint". Conservatives just aren't funny. And conservative humor is even worse.

(38,613 posts)Conservatives don't get humor, and especially satire. It's a pitiful sight to see.
Humor seems to be completely lost on Republicans.
I've never understood why. c.f. Dennis Miller and Victoria Jackson (although I'm willing to give the latter some slack, thinking it's just performance art).
P.J. O'Rourke is the only exception that comes to mind.

He's literate, which might work to his detriment.

(135,425 posts)quite literate--it's obvious that he has gotten a good education. I can only suppose his leanings were learned in childhood, and are reflexive and maybe even inherited--kind of like Linc Chaffee before he woke up and smelled the coffee.

(12,629 posts)I'll take June 14th. That gives it a week to fail miserably, and another week for Fox to admit it.

Fox news is just lies. It's just not the same. Lies aren't as funny.
The Daily Show is funny because it's (usually) true.

(13,081 posts)There has to be some sort of underlying truth. That's why conservative comedians aren't funny when they're doing conservative stuff, and why their conservative political stuff always fails so awfully: There's no truth to it.

(20,829 posts)For FOX to get the young crowd and be interesting it would need to lampoon itself. It won't. It will "work" only in attracting the same self hating bigots FOX news calls its main demographic.

(12,041 posts)Let's face it; we have all laughed our asses off at Fox on many occassions. Many of Comedy Central's funniest moments have come when they did nothing more than replay a clip from Fox News. The network is comedy gold, but somehow I don't think this guy will bring nearly as many laughs as the other Fox News hosts do.

(1,638 posts)Here's a skit about how it's silly that men complain about sexual harassment because men like to get sexually harassed (and the audience cheers when the guy tries to get his female co-anchor sexually harassed):
And a skit about how atheists are stupid because once God starts smiting them they'll admit they were making everything up (again, notice how the audience cheers when God kills one woman with a blow to the head):
It's always amusing to see right-wingers fumbling around trying to figure out what this humor thing is. Reminds me of Data or something:

He is so staggeringly NOT funny, it boggles the mind. The only people who would laugh at the diarrhea that comes out of his mouth are overgrown bullies who find other people's misery to be a source of humor. Sick, sick, sick assholes.... a.k.a. Fox viewers.
