I hardly think Bernie fans calling themselves Sandernistas will sink Bernie.

Or has the whole world truly lost their sense of humor?

I support Sanders, but don't feel the need to call myself anything but a supporter.
I don't really need a fancy name to show my support.
I am not a fan of names or labels.

`What we have accomplished in Burlington has not been done in any other city or town in the United States,`` said the Brooklyn, N.Y., native who came to Vermont 18 years ago.

``We have taken on the system, the big money, the newspapers, the Democratic Party, the Republican Party and all their representatives and beat them,`` he said.

The morning speech to supporters at City Hall preceded a formal announcement of his intentions scheduled for Monday in Montpelier.

Vermont elects a governor every two years. This year, Sanders will face Gov. Madeleine Kunin, a Democrat seeking re-election, and Lt. Gov. Peter Smith, the Republican candidate -- but the mayor`s independent bid threatens to throw the November election into the state Legislature.

If the winner does not secure a majority vote, the election must be decided by lawmakers in January.

Sanders, whose supporters are dubbed ``Sanderistas,`` forged an alliance of prgroessives and moderate Democrats in Burlington to gain control of the traditionally Democratic city government.
