(33,688 posts)who cannot stand the religulous insanity that has taken over that party. They brought their money and their economics with them and were more than happy to buy the Democratic Party from the DLC and the Clintons, who sold it for a song to line their own pockets.
Turd Way = corporatist economic royalists who are OK with marriage equality and are mushily pro-choice when it suits their underlying agenda, i.e., gulling low-attention Dem-leaners into thinking they are actually, you know, Democrats.

(32,139 posts)The Third Way was never a grass roots movement. In all its slimy rebrandings and reincarnations, it has remained what it started out to be: a deliberate, Wall Street-bankrolled infiltration of the Democratic Party, with the sole purpose of BUYING representation that should belong to voters and placing it with Wall Street corporations instead.
And they have used that corrupt representation to pervert our Constitutional government itself, from rigging the rules for elections and debates, to passing laws to increase the power of corporations in government, to implementing flatly antidemocratic, unconstitutional outrages like mass surveillance and "trade policies" that allow corporations to override laws and regulations voted upon by the people.
The current talking point is that the Third Way should be respected as part of the "big tent" of the Democratic Party. On the contrary, it is a CORRUPTION of the ownership of the party by voters. It is corporations buying power. In battling the Third Way, we aren't battling other Americans within a healthy democratic process. The Third Way is a corporate creation, and it is inherently corrupt. It is the purchase of policy and politicians by corporations, for the deliberate subversion of a democratic government into oligarchy.
When the DLC connections to the Koch Bros. became well known, they just rebranded the infiltration

(5,714 posts)On this site alone, there is substantial overlap between those who are obsessed with using "Third Way" as an epithet, and those who dismiss or outright ignore the concerns of substantial populations of the Democratic base - you know, the "divisive identity politics" crowd.

(55,745 posts)Big Money out of the UK and USA. It's the same group as the people who tried to overthrow FDR in 1933. Guess what? They had kids. And they are the ones* screwing America now. What's different today, though, is we don't have Smedley Butler or FDR to stop them.
Baron de Rothschild and Prescott Bush, share a moment and some information, back in the day.
* Of course, it's not just a few rich families's offspring who screw the majority today. They've hired help and built up the giant noise machine to continue their work overthrowing the progress FDR and the New Deal brought America for 80 years.
Why would the nation and world's richest people do that? Progress costs money. And they don't want to pay for it, even when they've gained seven times more wealth than all of history until 1981 put together.
Instead, whey continue to work -- legally, through government and lobbyists -- to amass even more, transferring the hard work and little wealth of the many onto themselves.
And instead of an armed mob led by a war hero, their weapon of enslavement is "Neo-Liberal Economics." To most Americans, that means Trickle-Down. To the planet, it means doom.
You should learn about it, NuclearDem.

(46,179 posts)"idealist" as complimentary. I think the people who achieve transformational change are those who work based on consistent principles, and who have their eyes always on the "prize:" the ideal.
So...stubborn? I don't have any problems with that when it comes to those consistent principles. Wide-eyed? Damned straight; eyes wide open, open enough to see the whole picture, near, far, small, big...
Idealist...you bet, and proud of it. Because the term is consistently used to mock people, I refer to myself as a defiant idealist. Defiant because I don't redraw boundaries based on the patronizing "pragmatism" that works to marginalize me and my ideals.

(5,714 posts)Not a good choice of words, OP. Especially in this context, where the accusation is "support" for the policies of "Wall Street" or "corporatists" more generally.

The latter group is much more consistent in their "if our team leader is for it, it must be good" mantra.
The conniving corporatists here tend to tap-dance and move the goal posts around more and start out by sounding benign, saying our unease is illusory at best, or necessary ( in an "eat your peas" way ) at worst. When confronted with rebuttals that eviscerate the faux benign-ity ( is that a word? ) some get pissy and go full-on corporatist and adopt a "screw you; we will bury you" persona.
-For example: They may at first try to sooth you with "evidence" that manufacturing in the US is doing just fine, needing only more exports to further grow and flourish as a nourished third-world becomes consumers for our stuff.
Counter arguments state that this meme has been pushed before and have only resulted in further erosion of the manufacturing base and loss of employment, with the third-world tapped for their labor by rent-seeking rapacious capitalists laughing all the way to the bank.
Suddenly they turn on a time and go from "trust me" to "screw you" and say manufacturing isn't important anyway ( "that train has already left the station" ) and how we just just suck it up and "adapt" to the new world of global trade ( an aparrently inevitable vicissitude as a law of physics ) and be good little bits of cannon fodder for the betterment of the third-worlds working class. At how uppity we must be to think the US working class should come first, and how they are a bunch of selfish rubes in being the economic engine of an evil US that plunders a disproportionate share the world's resources...Never blaming the companies that drive this.

1) Pro-fracking
2) Pro-TPA
3) Supports ISDS
4) Pro lgbt/women/ethnic minorities
5) Advocate "entitlement reform," i.e. reduction of benefits for SS, Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, etc.
6) Oppose labeling GMO's

(30,058 posts)The Third Way thinks about people and how to make this a better way to live. Not all can be Third Way, but we will continue and will continue to be Democrat. You may not agree with the issues the same as others and the Third Way may not agree with others on the issues. We will not be deterred.
