Does anyone know offhand the legislation I think it was Bernie Sanders proposed, which told the states, if you don't follow this policy "x", you will lose a certain percentage of Federal Highway funding? (This isn't about his Presidential bid, rather, if this type of legislation can be done, I'd like to suggest to legislators to apply it to induce a change in state behavior in various areas)
Thanks!

(4,784 posts)when the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 was passed. (Sanders was not in Congress then.) It is still in effect. (In 1987, the act was held to be constitutional by the Supreme Court.)
There have been others related to highway speed limits and mandatory motorcycle helmets which were eventually eliminated by Congress.

And RWNJs accuse liberals of being repressive.

If they don't follow federal law or balk at other items, screw them.

(300 posts)I don't understand this idea that something is legal in one state, but illegal somewhere else. We have rights. Everything should be uniform. I don't want to go into another state not knowing something should be illegal. If your driver's license is good in every state, then why not just have one license? Never understood that. This issue touches on abortion and other things.
