I got one.
David's always sayin' that his show was the Way to the White House.
Who have been conspicuous by their absences both on the show and in the monologue? Maybe Jill Biden? Hmmm, maybe.
Lots of people, but who is the most famous? After Obama, I mean.
I think it'll be Vice President Joe Biden and he will announce his candidacy..
I felt sure it would be, but that torched house and murdered family may have changed my prediction, and it may not happen. I hope they catch the insane person who did it.

(10,044 posts)He announced it last year - I think he wanted to give them a chance to find a new host - they did, and it will be Stephen Colbert.
He's been on for tha last couple of months having old time guests on and the applause has been stupendous. Every Sunday morning politics program has been talking about him.

(10,044 posts)SNL has been torching Hillary.
Joe Biden & Jill have not made a serious appearance on David's show. He did do a cameo long time ago. I think he may be on David's last show. David appears to be a liberal, loves politics, and just may want to get involved.
In another post, someone said that Biden would not run because he's too smart to run against Clinton because he knows he'd lose. I don't know that for a fact that he would lose. Nobody does.
brooklynite
(94,503 posts)Now that Clinton is running, he's smart enough to know that he'd lose to her; better to go out on top than be embarassed by a losing campaign.
And even if he did, he wouldn't announce something as serious as a Presidential campaign on a late-night TV show. Remember how successful Fred Thompson's announcement went on Leno?

(10,044 posts)Any guesses? Another campaign or two?
I doubt it would be SNL since Cecily Strong was at the White House Dinner and probably established friendships with the White House crew, including Biden. SNL is very kind to Obama and I think they are influential with the young (like me )
And Colbert, who gave his last show totally over to Obama will probably be kind to Biden too.
The only problem he'd have would be his Iraq vote. And with the work his wife does with veterans, I doubt that it would be difficult to make a strong statement against the war and his "wrong" vote.

(37,748 posts)Lot's of self-professed prophets pretending to know what's in store for everyone except themselves. Dime-store theatrics mainlining the pretense of an editorial lacking any supporting evidence, but heavy on the melodramatic bias.

(10,044 posts)The President and Michele have been on discussing serious topics. John McCain was on last week. Mitt Romney has made token appearances. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pope didn't go on if the show were still on.
How do you know he would lose to Clinton? Did you see SNL the last few weeks? If they have their way, it doesn't appear that she's their choice. They are torching her with regularity.
And he would not be embarrassed because his show won't be on, and his fans like him too much even if his candidate lost. It would just prove that he's honest enough not to go along with the crowd.

(28,749 posts)This OP makes no sense...

(10,044 posts)I was still thinking about last night's SNL and the bit they did on Hillary. It was their last of the season.
So my mind went to Letterman's last show, and figured something politic would give us something to think about...
But who? He's been doing bits on Bernie (not unkind either), and only mentioned Biden once, saying he hasn't been on, and that, by coincidence was the night he had Obama on. Obama said little or nothing about that.
I'm used to not making sense. Sorry, and I appreciate your telling me about the OP not making sense. Edited.

(10,044 posts)A couple and their child were murdered, and the housekeeper. My details may not be right, but it's under investigation and they're not saying much. I heard the first news of it early yesterday, but till today, there's been no mention of it.
The couple have 2 daughters, one or both are graduating from college and are away at school.

(10,044 posts)Last time I saw/heard/don't remember which, she was on the Old Movie Station, I think she was sitting there talking with the host of the movies, and then again, maybe it wasn't her.
I jus plain don't know who she was, but Barrymore rings a bell. Don't recall "John" too well, but Ethel was superb...

(14,157 posts)"The three-night event kicks off Monday, May 18 with a visit from Academy Award winner Tom Hanks, who first appeared with Letterman on Late Night April 4, 1984 and will make his 60th total appearance with the host. Also that night, rock superstar Eddie Vedder will make a special music performance backed by Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra.
Bill Murray, Lettermans first guest on Late Nights debut on Feb. 1, 1982, and his first guest on the LATE SHOWs August 30, 1993 premiere, makes his 44th overall and final appearance with the host Tuesday, May 19.
These shows all lead up to Lettermans final LATE SHOW broadcast, Wednesday, May 20, which will be an hour filled with surprises, memorable highlights, the shows final Top Ten List and more."

(10,044 posts)But Dave won't do the same thing. Carson still humbles him (although having gone thru Steve Allen, Jack Paar, and Johnny Carson, I think David was, hand's down, the best of them.

Dave: "Because you thought I was an, a..."
Cher: "an Asshole."
That was during her first appearance on his show after declining for years.
If I were the show's producer, that's exactly how it would end... Not because I don't like David Letterman; I do. Because I think it would be right up there with the Bobby Dream on Dallas, Suzanne Pleshette on Newhart, and the GOODBYE on MASH.

(10,044 posts)I read the article, and it doesn't say he's not ever going to run, it merely says that he'll decide at the end of summer. CBS is promising surprises on the last show, and this is the surprise I want.
Thanks for the link. Seems like I'm a lot of trouble for you. Why don't you run? You answer questions, you use good language, fancy words, and since you didn't mention gender in your profile, am guessing you're a female, but don't want people to know because men get more respect. I just read it, and was pleased to see that like me, you are human too!!
But we really need for Joe to run. He has gravitas, Bernie is acquiring more, but needs to be seen on a debate stage with some heavy hitters to be taken more seriously.

(10,044 posts)Leno's career with NBC has been a bit unpleasant the last few years. There would be no sweet sentimental times to remember with David...
Colbert - that's something else. We have heardn't heard or seen a peak of him since he left that last night that he had Obama on.
I'm still hung up on Biden. He's the only big celebrity that hasn't been on the show, and he's been mentioned (not unkindly) several times. Last thing I remember is a shower scene but can't remember the gist of it. And Jill has never been mentioned..maybe it'll be a pretense about helping vets and will end up with an "ooops" mention of a candidacy.
Truly, HC needs more competition...so does Bernie..it's healthier.

(2,107 posts)Seinfeld seemed to have a strong rapport with Dave in an episode of 'Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee' that I once saw. Maybe he'll pick Dave up outside the theater in a vintage Crown Victoria, or something.
