A coalition of Senate Democrats whove long opposed new trade agreements, led by Sherrod Brown of Ohio, say they are planning to throw up procedural roadblocks and offer amendments that would expand worker protections and undermine GOP support for the fast-track measure. While they cant win the battle, Brown and his allies hope their resistance will stoke popular sentiment against the bill and encourage Democrats to vote against it in the House, where Republican leaders warn they still need about 20 more votes for approval.
The handwritings on the wall, Brown said of the prospects of beating the bill in the Senate. But, he said: Theres real opportunity in the House to defeat it.
Were going to work as hard as we can to defeat this legislation, added Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in an interview Thursday. Time is on our side. The longer we keep it on the floor, the more the American people understand what a disastrous agreement this is, the better it is for us.

(3,160 posts)I cannot even imagine the feelings that Democratic legislators are experiencing knowing that they are fighting tooth and nail against a President they helped elect.
For that matter I wonder how President Obama feels.

(2,741 posts)Thankfully, there are some senators who are aware of the harm TPP will do. Thanks to Sherrod Brown, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders...To Hell with anyone supporting this crap "trade" deal...

(12,882 posts)What was amazing is that thru the whole spot, NOT ONCE was it referred to as the TPP or Trans-Pacific-Partnership. Not One Time did they use those titles - not even in opening on the subject. That has to indicate something - something not good about NPR.
