Ex-HUD secretary: Hillary will likely pick Julian Castro as running mate

"SNIP.................

Hillary Clinton’s campaign is likely to choose Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Julián Castro or another Hispanic politician to be her running mate, former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros said in an interview that will air Sunday.

“What I am hearing in Washington, including from people in Hillary Clinton’s campaign, is that the first person on their lists is Julián Castro, the ... Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, who use[d] to be the Mayor of San Antonio,” he said in an interview with Univision’s “Al Punto.”

“They don’t have a second option, because he is the superior candidate considering his record, personality, demeanor and Latin heritage.”

“I think there is a very high possibility that Hillary Clinton may choose Julián Castro,” he said.”

He blows up Jeb's claim to the Hispanic voting block.
And Rubio is diminished as well, even as the Koch's darling.
Julian Castro as VP choice has been in the works for sometime.
Plus, this young man has the most easy going personality, great sense of fairness, compassion, & professionalism, & add in that beautiful smile & Julian Castro stands far above anyone the GOP puts forth.
Castro is a master speaker, bright & brings a much needed breath of new-ness to the future of our Nation.

I believe guiding the future direction for America has been the goal of the Clinton campaign in bringing about an end to the 25 yrs of Rovian manipulation, restoring civil, equal & human rights, and bringing a balance back to our society.
Hillary brings Julian Castro to the Office of VP to assure the future of the US Presidency remains in Democratic control.
This has been in the making for a couple of years. And if she chooses Castro, the GOP will die a slow death for the next 12 years.
I say 12 because I don't believe Sec Clinton will serve a second term.
Her purpose now is to stop the GOP destruction of our country & hand the Office to a man she knows will serve Americans best.
Thanks.

'Julián Castro or another Hispanic politician'

Julian Castro I can get behind as a nice choice, but random Hispanic is another thing entirely. Really, random white guy, random african american, random gay person, random woman, random zumba instructor . . . yeah pretty much any other random anything is pretty much always going to be met by me with more than a smidgeon of skepticism.

The vote totals for statewide democrats are double digit losses and getting worse every four years. This will also alienate progressives even more since he is extremely conservative.

1) Hillary hasn't won the fucking nomination yet.

2) I must be the only one here who feels this guy has done absolutely nothing that remotely qualifies him to be Vice President and he's only being considered for entirely superficial reasons like his skin color and youth. He doesn't excite me as a VP choice at all.

It really is of no consequence to Hillary Clinton, her surrogates, or her supporters. They keep squawking that it's all media driven. What a load of bullshit. When you start leaking VP nominees over 7 months before the primaries start and a full 19 months before the GE there is no other way to look at it other than self-drive inevitability from the Clinton Camp. The one thing I want to point out (and it pains me to say this because it is a compliment) the Hillary Clinton of 2008 wouldn't have done this.

-The millions raised before she even announcement her candidacy.
-The low-key announcement and campaign to purposefully stay out of the spotlight once she entered the race.
-Leaking a VP nominee before the primaries.

Yes, that is a VERY different Hillary Clinton.

We are now picking candidates based on their identity and not their issues or politics.

This strategy is incredibly risky not just for the party's sake, but it risks even further polarization of our entire society in perhaps very unpredictable ways.

How many white vice presidential candidates have we had and how many of them were chosen strictly on their merits? Many were chosen to add regional, ideological, or gender balance to the ticket.

I am not for shutting the door when it comes to my Latino brothers and sisters.

Very popular 40-yr old ex-mayor of San Antonio (now head of HUD). I have no doubt he will be someone's VP and could even be President at some point. He is the future of Texas.

I like Hillary and do want to see a Woman President but now that I have a real choice in the matter and the fact I'm old and we're leaving a mess for my 8 year old grand daughter to have to deal with I'll go for the man who talks the language I talk. Its Bernie Sanders all the way for me. I will work for him I will support him as well as my meager finances will allow. its not the amount its the will that matters.
