Will former San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro be Hillary Clinton's running mate in 2016?

Henry Cisneros, who was Secretary of Housing and Urban Development for former President Bill Clinton, adds more fuel to the growing fire that former San Antonio Mayor and current HUD Secretary Julián Castro is at the top of Hillary Clinton's list of potential vice presidential running mates.

"What I am hearing in Washington, including from people in Hillary Clinton's campaign, is that the first person in their lists is Julián Castro," said Cisneros, according to the transcript of an interview taped with Univision's Al Punto.

"... They don’t have a second option," said Cisneros, "because he is the superior candidate considering his record, personality, demeanor and Latin heritage."

This week, Washington was buzzing with talk of a Clinton-Castro ticket.

All around a great start to her campaign. She has the media doing what they do best. Talking about themselves. Most educated people have extremely little trust in the media and her initial strategy of listening to the people and ignoring the media is working well. I was a little nervous at first. That nervousness has been put to bed. The right wingers and the media attacking her is having excellent results to this point. The media is about sensationalism, not about moving the country forward. She knows that and is playing them perfectly.

Then the stories she is getting out are excellent. This one can be found in a number of places. I would be willing to bet it originated from her campaign. I love it. Some of the stories, about the media written by the media, are helping her cause. The right wing attack machine is coming up with such laughable stories that make them look small.

There is a long, long way to go before anyone ought to be talking about who Hill might pick as a running mate.

I doubt she is ever going to have the opportunity.

But this isn't about counting chickens. No one will view these rumors as a negative. No one except the right. Positive stories are always good. As is her great relationship with Castro.

I think Castro's promotion to HUD was done for exactly this reason. Unless Hillary isn't the nominee, Castro's career collapses, or something really unexpected happens involving the needs of the campaign in the VP slot, I expect him to be the pick.
