Gillespie: Romney ‘Doesn’t Remember’ Bullying Incidents In Post Report

Senior Romney adviser Ed Gillespie responded to a Washington Post story that details how Romney led an incident of bullying while he was a student at the elite Cranbrook school, on MSNBC Thursday morning.

“Gov. Romney doesn’t remember that at all. It was in high school. I suppose if there was an investigative team that went through my high school yearbook, they could find some incidents that I don’t remember that if I did remember I might not like,” Gillespie said, adding that those who know Romney “know that he is a caring, compassionate person” and “that has been evidenced in his career.”

Does Gillespie find it troubling?

I’m not challenging it. I don’t know enough about it. It’s a story about pranks in high school and that kind of thing. Like I said, if someone went back to my high school, I’m sure they could turn up things that I don’t remember and even if i did, I would not like that I had done that.

as long as you live. Romney is either lying about not remembering or incidents like this were so commonplace to him that he can't recall any one of them in particular.

either the multiple witnesses are lying, or

bullying incidents like this were so common to Rmoney that he simply can't be expected to remember each and every one of them.

where have we heard that before?

Rush Limbaugh said that what happened was no worse than a fraternity prank-that soldiers were just having a little fun. His message was that these prisoners had it coming to them. (Never mind that the famously hooded prisoner, hooked up to the electric wires, was actually under arrest for carjacking, not terrorism. Never mind that these same conservatives pundits want to put film-makers in jail for showing nudity on the public airwaves, but forcing naked Iraqis to perform sexual acts on film is just some good old American fun.)

Better get ready to keep tally marks. How many times will Mitt have said "I don't recall" after this thing completely blows up?

I have no doubt that Romney remembers this incident. You don't forget something like this. This is a truly awful, gut wrenching story. The fact that he won't own up to it indicates that he is either deeply ashamed of it, or he is a cold-hearted asshole.

If he had any guts, if he had any human decency, he would admit that he did it and express how ashamed he is. But he didn't because he is a coward and a bully.

Let's not normalize Romney just because we don't usually speak his 1%-er language:

"Romney was a bully while in Upper School; assaulted perceived gay student with scissors"

It's about the assault of another student because of his perceived sexual orientation. Someone capable of such an act should not be President of the United States.

radar for people. This is it. This defines him. People who have this mind set do like to fire people and don't care who they hurt as long as they get what they want and no one in their immediate environment is threatening their notions of how the world should operate. This man should not get anywhere near the White House. Romney remembers pinning that person and cutting his hair. Bet on it.
