nominee for the presidency - would the Dems then get behind Bernie or would they urge another Dem to run for the nomination.
We all know that the Repugs are gunning for Hillary looking for any angle to knock her out - be it Benghazi, these e-mails or some other invented scandal. I was just wondering if they are successful in some way, shape or form and she has to drop out of the race for the Dem nomination - who would the Dems back?

(30,481 posts)I think the structured components of the party would back O'Malley at this point in time. I believe he is going to get in very soon. Fair question. Look forward to the replies.

(376 posts)Just Bernie and Hillary...
Then what? Bernie is the perfect candidate to go with today's toxic climate. It's time to learn if the people wants to go back to productivity or the same old shit.
Hillary represents the same old shit.
Bernie represents new ideas and bold moves.

You could say "If Clinton decides not to run" and still have an interesting OP. I mean, what if she develops a health issue? What if she decides she really does want to spend more time doing something else?
It's a long time until the Primary so anything is possible.

(25,167 posts)I was asking an honest question cause this a.m. I heard that the State Dept won't release her e-mails until January. It was a what if question because I like to be prepared for all circumstances. Yes - you are right - she may develop a health issue or want to be a Grandma more than President - anything can happen. The question still stands - who would the Dems back should she drop out for any reason?
randome
(34,845 posts)17 months until the election. I don't even think we should be worrying this much about who will be President in 2017 until, oh, let's say the start of 2016.
We're gonna wear ourselves out.

(2,104 posts)we don't have the money to defend. It will, be all defense. Bad strategy from the get go. That is why I support Bernie Sanders, who's record is all about us, and why I see Hillary as a flawed candidate. Defense, defense, defense. It is what it is.....

(71,265 posts)I have no idea but not likely Sanders.
Someone else would have to join the race.

(376 posts)If you reject Bernie outright before anything has started, then you have a serious problem with the current electorate.
Bernie will break through, and will win, resoundingly - it's about the 1% vs 99%. It's no longer about Democrat vs Republican.
It's about INCOME INEQUALITY - why do you insist on continuing to enrich the 1% at the expense of people like me?
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)eloydude
(376 posts)Hillary Clinton? She does not represent anyone. She represents the 1%. If you think you are a part of the 1%, then good luck, my friend. I want you to sit down, listen to Bernie, and see if he truly represents your interests. If not, then again, good luck.
If Hillary Clinton is the nominee, I'll just give her my vote. She earns nothing else from me - she can pay me to vote for her if she wants to "excite" me.
She's about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Also, despite the banners I'm currently flying, I will support Hillary if she is our nominee.
But, to hypothetically answer your question, it looks to me like Sen. Warren is poised to take over if Hill gets scandalized out of the race. I still think the only reason she's not jumping in to challenge Hillary is because A) she supports Hillary, and 2) she believes it would be futile and a waste of funds and resources that could be directed to Hillary's effort.

(1,508 posts)So the party would certainly not back Sanders. In fact, they'd certainly rather have the Republican win than he.
No. They'd use someone other than Sanders.

(31,681 posts)And per Senator Sanders (read this at DU yesterday) he has not formally declared yet.
We still have Webb and O'Malley to announce. I believe O'Malley is targeted for May 30th.
When those two get in the race - it's going to get very interesting.

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Calling us true liberals "fringe left" is highly offensive and should be removed. We, the "fringe left" are the true progressives, and should be treated with respect.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Tue May 19, 2015, 12:22 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Nothing offensive here
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Senseless alert. And respect is earned.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: LOL True liberals isn't offensive?
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: If the alerter is arguing that there is no "fringe left", I beg to differ, and so do the DU TOS.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(37,748 posts)I would think the Democrats would push someone who both illustrates the party platform and is electable. I'd guess that if either condition is not met by a candidate, that candidate would not have the support.

(110,950 posts)...that the Republicans would think Bernie would be an easy mark as a "socialist"? However, the old saying about "be careful what you wish for" comes to mind. Nothing can stop an idea whose time has come, regardless of name-calling and labeling, in my opinion.

We're tire of politics as its been the last 50 years or so and Bernie Sanders is a breath of fresh air to us. Again Bernie Sanders is our next President. You can take that to the bank.
The press and Hillary supporters are trying to get him to engage in a food fight with Hillary but he's not biting, its not his style. He's a Smart Man and again he will be our next President
