WASHINGTON -- Senate Environment and Public Works Chairman Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) said Tuesday that his own party is one of the main problems when it comes to finding a path forward on long-term, increased funding for the nation’s roads, bridges and transit systems.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Inhofe remained optimistic that Congress could act on a six-year extension of the Highway Trust Fund -- but not until the end of the year, and only if Republicans make highways a priority. The trust fund is the federal money pot that pays for the country’s transportation infrastructure, and it’s in a dire state. Without congressional action this week, the fund will expire on May 31.

Right now, Congress plans to authorize a two-month extension of the fund, which will allow the Transportation Department to continue giving states money for transit projects up to July. After July, however, legislators will need to find an additional funding source for a long-term bill.

“The problem with this bill is really more Republicans than Democrats,” Inhofe said.

It’s happened before, he added, noting a 27-month extension bill that Republicans had trouble getting behind.

“If you remember the 27-month bill, we had a hard time with all these Republicans. I can say this, no one else can, because I’ve been ranked as the most conservative member more than anyone else has. We had a bunch of demagogues down there, Republicans who were trying to say, ‘Oh, we can’t do this. We can’t spend all this money on it.’ I thought that’s not right,” Inhofe said.

I think this might be delayed public reaction to their six-year-long "We're taking our ball and going home because America sucks!!!11" platform. I always wondered when Republican voters would notice that it was a stupid idea with serious consequences.

A LOT. So much that even Inhofe can't ignore it, and if it's the men and women across the aisle who are voting to improve things in Oklahoma, he can't ignore that. If the men and women standing next to him in the Senate are voting against one of the biggest sources of revenue in the State of Oklahoma, he can't very well ignore that, either.

Well, on the other hand, he IS a Republican, so yes, he COULD ignore it. But at least this one time, he didn't. Realism from a Republican. Don't get used to it, people. I'm sure he'll be symptom-free the minute the subject gets changed.

The republicans are very good at strangling a program and then coming back and do a one month or three month extension.
Then turn around and talk that the program is failing.
Then to go around and brag this hypocrisy in the so called MSM without being challenged and then say the government for the people is failing, with there help.
Look no further than at what is now happening in the Jebby world and the lie in Iraq, saying it was a mistake---------no, it was lie, now say it.

This governing by this particular right wing hypocrite and his other right wing cronies is not only disingenuous, but he and his band of merry men and woman and there style of Goldwater republicanism and Ayn Rand libertarianism are the problem in this government malaise and it needs to place squarely at there feet, there bloody hands.

He does not forget that his right wing Pac's, congressional crews, billionaire and millionaires and the suckers supporters at the bottom this hypocrisy are driving over these dangerous bridges and roads, railroad, flying, shipping channels ect....... they just voted to give the defense department 612 billion in tax dollars and then turn around and cut Amtrak.

Then he comes out and says this: ......."I’ve been ranked as the most conservative member more than anyone else has." We had a bunch of demagogues down there, Republicans who were trying to say, ‘Oh, we can’t do this. We can’t spend all this money on it.’ I thought that’s not right,” Inhofe said."

That is not a badge of honor Inhofe----that is disgusting.

Then he sallies forth, like he and his cronies are now progressive and liberal in there rhetoric for infrastructure.

The entire world looks at this and they are waiting for the other shoe to drop from Inhofe and there crew of deceit and deception.

He is one the biggest hypocrites in office.
We all know, that he has his corporate lackeys in the coal, oil and gas industry denying that we have a huge climate problem-----then, he decides to bring a snowball on the senate floor like its a show and tell moment (see there is no climate change)--------he, will not allow scientific evidence and pictures from NASA or NOAA to validate what is happening in real time.

But when you are turning the country into a third rate failed state, just like Goldwater use to want in his rants, and is being implemented has we speak today, says everything about duplicity and because of there lack of funding on infrastructure.

Let's remind everyone that there is blood on there right wing hands, look no further at the collapse in Minnesota on the I-35 Bridge and Amtrak--Port Richmond, Pennsylvania.

Nice try Inhofe, but you and your cronies are a failures, and you should be reminded of this everyday, on the floor of the Senate, with a tally of those that died because of your simple fact to neglect safety for its citizens in this country.

If they sell it as Toll Roads with the profits going to their cronies, they'll do it in a minute.

That is happening state by state. It's now barely remarked upon that SCOTUS judges, governors, legislatures and Congress persons openly hobnob with and pledge allegiance to their agenda. If they don't, they are run from office one way or the other.

The Koch orders on this were laid out years ago and being enacted right now:

*“We support the eventual repeal of all taxation.”

*“We call for the dissolution of all government agencies concerned with transportation, including the Department of Transportation.”

*“We demand the return of America's railroad system to private ownership. We call for the privatization of the public roads and national highway system.”

*“We call for the privatization of the inland waterways, and of the distribution system that brings water to industry, agriculture and households.”

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024806298

So, as long as they can vote within those parmeters, they'll do something. Inhofe must not have been getting his cut. Look to see him go after the GOP for what appears to be the right reasons, but in fact will lead to exactly what the Koches want.

Faced with two obstructionist GOP factions, his view will be painted by mainstream media as reasonable. This is the first trailer to the Inhofe theatre. You know, the guy who knows full well climate change is taking place, but his pockets tell him to divert attention from it:

What the Stimulus Accomplished

snip//

The stimulus could have done more good had it been bigger and more carefully constructed. But put simply, it prevented a second recession that could have turned into a depression. It created or saved an average of 1.6 million jobs a year for four years. (There are the jobs, Mr. Boehner.) It raised the nation’s economic output by 2 to 3 percent from 2009 to 2011. It prevented a significant increase in poverty — without it, 5.3 million additional people would have become poor in 2010.
