Carls Jr. began selling a 1,080-calorie burger Wednesday that it hopes appeals to Americans patriotic spirit, along with their appetites.
The Most American Thickburger features a beef patty topped with hot dogs and a layer of potato chips, combining three Fourth of July barbecue staples in a creation aimed squarely at the fast-food chains core customers: young, hungry guys.
People love these big, juicy, indulgent burgers, said Andy Puzder, the chief executive officer of closely held CKE Restaurants, the parent company of Carls Jr. and its companion chain Hardees. We know who we are and we know how to appeal to our customers.
The idea for the burger has been percolating inside the Carpinteria, California-based company for almost five years, Puzder said. The chain toyed with including french fries on the burger, but found they wouldnt hold up against the moisture inside the sandwich. They got too soggy. The same was true of regular potato chips, so Carls Jr. settled on kettle-cooked chips that are a bit hardier. .................(more)

(111,141 posts)Now I can see being a glutton and having both a burger and a dog, but not on the same bun, that's just gross, the flavors don't go together.
Fast food joints have seemingly declared war on macho twits who want to cram as much animal fat and calorie count into a single sandwich.
They can keep 'em. My pipes are clean so far and I'd like to keep 'em that way.

(146,254 posts)I'm sure some people will, though. My favorite burgers have a toasted bun (for durability), a hand-formed 1/3 pound burger, lettuce, sliced onion and tomato and one condiment from among mustard, ketchup, or mayo. I'll eat that one, thanks.
Pickle chips and maybe some decent cheddar cheese are OK with me, too.
I don't go to Carl's Jr., though. We don't have them in Minnesota. Hardee's is the brand from that group here, but I don't go there, either. For a easy-to-find fast food burger, I usually choose a Whopper from BK. But, we're finally getting an In-N-Out Burger store near here. That would be my first choice.
