WEST HAVEN >> One of the owners of the abruptly closed A-1 Diner met with employees Tuesday and came out saying, I love my employees ... and Im definitely going to pay them.
But co-owner George Tsiaorvas also came out of the meeting inside the shuttered diner which closed suddenly after operating a seemingly normal day on Sunday without paying the six or seven employees who were there.
Several of them were not overly optimistic afterwards, after being told that the other owner, George Tsiolis, who supposedly is the one who will pay them, is sick with a kidney infection and Tsiaorvas didnt know when he might be able to come to West Haven to pay them.
Tsiaorvas, who opened the diner with Tsiolis last year in the former location of West Havens Friendlys restaurant, promising to bring a taste of New York diners to West Haven and Connecticut, would not comment on rumors among employees that he plans to reopen the diner soon with a different partner.
