11th Circuit upholds Siegelman conviction, sentence.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A federal appeals court has upheld the bribery conviction and prison sentence of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman.

The 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Wednesday that Siegelman was not entitled to a new trial. The judges also upheld Siegelman's 78-month sentence.

The ruling is the latest legal blow to Siegelman, who has been fighting to overturn his 2006 conviction in a government corruption case. A federal jury convicted Siegelman of appointing former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy to a state board in exchange for campaign donations.

Siegelman, a Democrat, had argued that a prosecutor with ties to GOP politics remained involved in his case despite her recusal. Federal judges said there was no evidence she influenced the prosecution team

Siegelman is projected to get out of prison in 2017.

Wouldn't want to offend any of the downstream judges. Or anyone else for that matter. Like Rove. I forgot what he had to do with it, but he's there.

I sure as heck hope POTUS hasn't been waiting for this, the 'final' 'NO,' from the courts, before he considers pardon, but here it is.

Scrushy really is a genuine crook. Guilt by association. Shouldn't have gotten mixed up with him.

At least I think the proof is weak as all get out. But pols should be careful not to associate with crooks. It never ends well. Bad judgment on Seigalman's part. It's not like he didn't know Scrushy was a crook. Everyone in AL in biz or politics knew that.

I still don't get why Obama doesn't just pardon the guy.

Good grief. It's kind of an embarrassing & glaring omission.

It's been politicized... and therefore... corrupted.

Like our ENTIRE political system.
