Glenn Beck Calls for the Repeal of Federal Drug Prohibition

http://reason.com/blog/2015/05/21/glenn-beck-calls-for-the-repeal-of-feder

The conversation turned to the war on drugs in general and also touched on federalism, the Commerce Clause, the nature of addiction, and the moral justification for paternalistic interference with individual freedom. Reading from my recent Forbes column, Beck said he is strongly attracted to the Millian principle that "the individual is sovereign" over "his own body and mind," which rules out government intervention aimed at protecting people from their own bad decisions. "I'm a libertarian in transit," he said. "I'm moving deeper into the libertarian realm....Inconsistencies bother me." By the end of the show, Beck was declaring that the federal government should call off its war on drugs and let states decide how to deal with marijuana and other psychoactive substances.

He's only against that thar evul soshulist Federal gummint. Like Ron Paul, he would have no problem if, say, Texas wanted to make possession of a joint a capital offense.

He was less of an ass back then. I agree with him that drugs should be decriminalized.

5. Problem is he would also refuse to allow tax dollars to help addicts.

Or for tax dollars to even exist for anything other than the MIC

Of course addictive drugs must be made legal and provided in controlled environments to help addicts deal with addiction.

the way we now handle it guarantees much addiction and much death

Essentially the Confederate position on slavery. Ron and Rand Paul have been singing that same song for years, trying to make it sound to the general public like they support legalization, but their base supporters hear and understand the underlying dog whistle.

9. OK, Glenn, now just take that laserlike focus of your libertarian-loving, inconsistency-hating mind

and focus it on the issues of contraception and abortion. Wait--give us all a minute to go put on some protective gear....
