Veterans Medical Marijuana Amendment Passes in Historic Senate Vote

Just today, the Senate Appropriations Committee passed a bipartisan amendment, 18-12, allowing Veterans Administration (VA) doctors to recommend medical marijuana to their patients in states where it's legal.

The amendment, sponsored by Steve Daines (R-MT) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR), is a huge step forward for drug policy reform. Though this amendment only grants doctors this ability for one year, it is the first time the U.S. Senate has ever voted on marijuana reform.

This same amendment failed in the U.S. House by just 3 votes earlier this month, but is now included in the must-pass military construction and veterans affairs spending bill. The bill is certain to pass on the Senate floor.
