If you really want to thank a vet.....Promise you will vote...and keep the promise.

On this Memorial Day weekend lots of people will say "thank you for your service" to lots of other people. Some will even mean it. You too can be of service to your country and it won't inconvenience you very much at all. You won't have to go to 'basic' and get yer ass kicked by some scowling DI or crawl through mud while bullets fly over your head. Yes, Uncle Sam needs you to VOTE! You may have surmount the ramparts and assail the parapets emplaced by the Republican Party to stop you at almost any cost, but you can do it. So when you say thank you, also say "I will vote" and then do it.

1. I do vote and i will continue. My state will mail ballots to seniors and disabled so

I do not have an excuse to be a non voter.

2. Specifically

We need to vote for people who will support veterans in real terms, not just say they support veterans. I was astonished when John McCain refused to support improvement in the GI Bill, but his attitude just reflects the much larger "What have you done for me lately?" attitude so popular in Congress. When we send them to do our dirty work on the far side of the world, they're all wonderful heroes, and we can't say enough great things about them, and we invite them to stand next to the president and be recognized in Congress, and blah, blah, blah. But then they get out of the military, and we refuse to adequately fund their medical care, particularly when it comes to PTSD and mental health. We demand better performance from the VA medical system, but refuse to put up the money. We're even lax about making sure their employers give them back their jobs when the return from a deployment.

3. and remember this is not "Veterans Day"

This is Memorial day for the ones that never made it back alive but fought for that freedom we all have. A toast to the fallen.
