What would the young rascal Mitt Romney be charged with these days over the Cranbrook incident?

Criminal: False Imprisonment? Assault and Battery? Assault With a Deadly Weapon? Conspiracy (for organizing it)? In some states, there might even be a Hate Crime enhancement.

Civil: Humiliation?

What do you think?

The number involved makes it mob action, a deadly weapon was employed, and actually brought into contact with the victim. The passage of time from the first attested out-cry against the victim establishes pre-meditation and criminal mind, and the attested statement establishes the animus against a group required for a hate-crime enhancement.

Most places he ought to be looking at six or so years....

deadly weapon. Depending on the state, a bump up to hate crime status would certainly be possible if there's a specific statute. A civil lawsuit would also rest on firm grounds if the victim suffered bodily harm.

it was back then too. I noticed the wp story said he was never even punished for it by the school administrators. No real surprise there.
