It's sort of like an overflow bowl, for when the vitriol here gets too bad and the banhammer comes down.

It's also not "Democratic." It's an "Everyone" site--all views are welcomed. No hosts. Juries, but it is a Mad Max kind of environment. Community standards are malleable. It's a place that runs smoothly, even if not always fairly, unlike some of the clunky rightwing ones. It is a place where the "right" can engage the "left" in Internet Battle for Domination of the Webiverse, or something.
