A pit bull who had been stolen from his owner and then beaten and burned with cigarettes before being abandoned under a freeway in San Francisco last week had to be euthanized over the weekend when his organs began failing, officials said.
Maximilian, as shelter staffers called him, was found around 6 a.m. Thursday near the corner of Division Street and South Van Ness, said Deb Campbell, a spokeswoman for San Francisco Animal Care and Control. In a coincidence, workers at the shelter, after getting in contact with the dogs owner, learned that his real name was Maxx.
The dog, who was less than a year old, was found suffering from cigarette and other types of burns, broken and missing teeth, trauma to the head and body, and injuries to his legs and paws, including missing pads and nails. Still, Campbell said, he was in relatively good spirits when he got to the shelter, wagging his tail and even rolling over for a belly rub.
Hes a friendly guy, which makes this kind of abuse all the more heartbreaking, said Virginia Donohue, executive director of Animal Care and Control.

Whoever the sicko is that did this to this poor dog deserves to spend the rest of their life in jail. The amount of cruelty in this case against Maxx is something I cannot wrap my mind around!
There is a $10,000 reward out there if the culprit is found. $10,000 for the arse of a rotten person is not enough to bring justice to what has been done to this puppy!

(7,820 posts)I hear these types of stories and my first reaction is just rage- and a gut feeling that people just suck. Then I think of the other side- the people who do care, who reach out to help an animal who has been abused or abandoned- who are heartbroken by things like this- and I think maybe there's hope for us after all.

(20,867 posts)As as Carl Jung once wrote, (paraphrase) "Evil, just by the very nature of what it is eventually destroys itself".
No truer words I have found to describe EVIL.
May the bastard rot in hell anyway just for the record!!!!

(7,820 posts)I always find it hard to wrap my head around these kinds of acts, though. Intentionally harming an innocent and defenseless child or animal is something I just can't understand.

(20,867 posts)I had course in graduate school and the subject was EVIL. There is so much to learn about evil and its various manifestations that we witness as humans in this world.
Hatred goes right along with evil. The two things combined bring nothing but more of the same; toxic combination is what you have.

(9,951 posts)This is the beginning of a serial killer, after awhile, they're not satisfied with torturing animals, they then graduate to humans.
Hopefully this waste of oxygen is caught and sentenced to life before he can harm anymore animals or humans.

As far a human behavior goes, these cases don't surprise me much anymore. I don't have a lot of trust in the human race. I think our days are numbered.
