(68,644 posts)He's pragmatic enough to be open to balancing his negatives (what few there are) with a complementary figure, someone more traditional.
No names come to mind.
Would love to see a Sanders Warren ticket, though.
Unbeatable, that's what that would be.

(39,215 posts)make a good president if anything happened to Bernie. As well it should be someone who can help in the campaign. Elizabeth Warren could fill the last two but....
I want Elizabeth Warren in a position where she can make a difference not stuck in the vp position that is really kind of powerless.

(19,537 posts)... and I would LOVE her being in line to take over for Bernie if he got elected once he left office. And he wouldn't even have to feel bad about leaving after one term if age problems hit, and if someone like her could run immediately afterward.
Perhaps if we want to have another socialist on the ticket he could put Kshama Sawant from Seattle, who's been doing great things like helping lead the fight to get their minimum wage up to $15/hr. Not sure whether she has native American citizenship though which might preclude her from running for president. But she could also help get some west coast votes too.
I would love my Senator Merkley to be on the ticket if he couldn't get Warren on it. Though, we then would have to probably replace two senators here, as I think a primary run by Pete DeFazio for 2016 is in order against Wyden who's turned on us with the TPP efforts he's done.

(813 posts)but only 10 electoral votes. Nixon didn't handle Ferguson very well, I have doubts about him.
Would love Barbara Lee, or Sherrod Brown, but he's badly needed where he is. He and Warren are a powerhouse team, as one and two on the banking committee.

(28,749 posts)Can't speak for everyone who supports him. I think it's an important excercise for both of them when considering who is the best candidate. After all electability in the GE is what matters.

What I am hearing in Washington, including from people in Hillary Clintons campaign, is that the first person on their lists is Julián Castro,
Maybe he's lying?

In the general a Sanders-Warren ticket would be all about populism and progressive policies - New England is perfect for that.

(3,660 posts)Grijalva is the first name that springs to mind. Good geographic and demographic balance but close enough politically. Kind of doubles up on the not-young and not-slick thing a bit, but if you have that at the top no amount of Armani-clad limberness at #2 is likely to help.
Yes gender and age balance may help too, but a tough spot to fill. Sinema is too new and that would be too areligious a ticket. Duckworth doesn't help EC and excludes South and West, Gillibrand is worse in both cases. Chu is not all that for the youth angle and no EC help. Giffords would be cool as hell if her health could stand it, which is questionable. Gabbard? Same as Sinema without the EC benefit. Probably missing someone but nobody else jumps out.

(56,582 posts)I like Sinema, though she's more conservative than I am (and I'm more conservative than most of DU). I think she would do a good job with a bully pulpit.
I don't know. It's early enough in the campaign that we can have these ideas, and I like that

(3,660 posts)The sexuality thing and even the S word thing may be surmountable, but no kowtowing even to kinder gentler "Mainstream" (dying) Liberal Christianity? That won't reassure the mushy middle that has absorbed Christian=good and will guarantee an all-out holy war from the RW theocratic culture warriors just when gay acceptance has them temporarily feeling battered and helpless
Recursion
(56,582 posts)If Sanders were to be nominated I think that would send shockwaves throughout the party, which could totally let an outsider like Sinema get the Veep nod.
Personally, I'm iffy on Sanders's chances, though I'm also iffy on Clinton's; my own guess is that there's still a dark horse here.

(28,749 posts)Mayor to VP seems like a stretch even in a big city, but this is just a thought excercise.
Population probably similar to Alaska and we all know how that went.
I just like her
Same with Julian Castro, former mayor of San Antonio, but Obama did promote him to HUD and he is young (40) so he's an up and comer to watch. Houston is 4th largest city in the country, I believe San Antonio is about 7th. There may well be some governors I'm missing who would be better candidates for VP.
