Facebook Rant... So tired of the RW Bullshit Memes

One of my more conservative friends posted a RW meme that got my bloof boiling...

The premise is basically pitting the military against people fighting for a living wage...
The short version is "Fast fuud workers want $15 an hour, that's $30,000 sonething a year. That's how much combat troops fighting for your freedums get paid! How DARE you want to get paid as much as a member o our beloved war machi... military! If we raise the minimum wage it somehow demeans military service, cause M'urica! Remember, there is no jobs shortage out there... if you are working full time at McDonalds it's because you've CHOSEN a life of abject poverty... If you want more money, go find a real job ya lazy bum!

Okay, my response is still this... I'm not suggesting that fast food workers deserve pay equal to that of a combat veteran... You clearly need to pay combat veterans more than what they could earn at a burger joint... but let me be clear about the purpose of this thing we call minimum wage...
It was not intended to be defined by the very minimum that a company has to pay it's lowliest worker... No it was meant to be defined as the minimum that a working person needs to earn in order to survive in this country. Minimum wage was intended to rise at the same rate as the cost of living so that any increases in cost would be offset by the increase in wages... but that hasn't happened for several decades. It was supposed to be a safeguard, if you couldn't find a good job you could work full time at ANY crappy job and still get by...
If you work 40 hours a week anywhere in this country, doing any shit job you can find because your good job got outsourced to Canada, you ought to be able to pay rent AND feed yourself... Of course, the same people who bitch about raising the minimum wage to something reasonable will also complain about these same minimum wage employees receiving food stamps... You can can either be against a $15 and hour minimum wage, OR you can be against government assistance, but you can't have it both ways... would you rather someone be given aid with your tax dollars, or would you rather that person actually be able to support themselves? Bonus, question... If every frycook, dishwasher, and burger flipper got $15 an hour, how much additional income tax revenue would the government receive annually?

anyone making that argument is ignorant beyond measure, so no rational arguments will have any effect, although they may have an effect on casual readers happening across that conversation.

I would prefer to take his silly argument further, and propose that the shame is in paying our soldiers so little. The median US income is between $55-65,000, depending upon whom you ask, so why don't we raise our soldiers pay to that level?

E-3's and above should be making at least the median wage. And, of course, there is no reason to raise taxes to pay for this.

They are all rah rah when we are bombing people (men, women and children) back to the Stone Age, as they like to say. But barely lift a finger to make sure those same warriors get a decent health care, etc when they return home

And they see NOTHING wrong with FastFood workers doing their jobs for less than a living wage....because, you know, they made their "choice". Spare me! Like they had a choice. It never occurs to them that just a teeny tiny bit of their attitude might stem from racism. Oh, no...not them. They ARE NOT racist. They will be quick to tell you that.

I have relatives...people that I love ...who talk this way and have these attitudes. Post that BS on Facebook...daily. Drives me nuts, but what can you do? They immediately go into defense mode if you try to discuss it. They dismiss anything that conflicts with their world view as coming from a Left Wing Librul.....😲😲😳😥
