Hillary Clinton Blasts GOP Rivals For Opposing Equal Pay: 'What Century Are They Living In?

WASHINGTON -- Hillary Clinton issued perhaps the most pointed critique yet of her 2016 Republican challengers on Wednesday while campaigning in Columbia, South Carolina. Addressing the state's Democratic Women's caucus, the former secretary of state took a veiled shot at several GOP presidential contenders for opposing legislation that would ensure pay equity for men and women.

Though she did not specifically mention their names, Clinton criticized Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) for calling equal pay a "bogus" issue, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) for saying Congress was "wasting time" on the matter and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) for comparing paycheck fairness to price-setting by the Soviet Union's governing body, the Politburo.

"What century are they living in?" Clinton said, drawing applause from supporters in the audience.

Maybe that is our main theme for the campaign. It rings true.

This is an easy one for Hillary. Where is she on the TPP? Afraid of offending large corporate donors?

Looks like she's going more public with her campaign, rather than focusing on small, selected groups to listen to. It's time for a new phase of her approach to the early primary states. I think we'll be hearing much more from her in the coming weeks.

She is not a natural politician but a learned one which is harder.

On sheer campaigning skills I would put her right behind Cruz and the Huckster.

I think we'll see a much different campaigner in 2016 than we did in 2008. I expect many to be surprised.

No, she would be ahead of them with both hands tied behind her back and drunk. She isn't my choice in the primaries, but I wouldn't equate her to Cruz.

As usual.

Is she going to set wages such that female-dominated fields pay as much as male-dominated fields, for example? Without that, women will end up, OVERALL, ON AVERAGE earning considerably less than men. From what I read, that's the reason given for most of the 77 cents to the dollar pay disparity.

What about the issue of large numbers of women taking time out from the workplace to raise young children, and thus getting behind others who stay in continuously full time, and thus paid less?

X = Demand equal pay for men and women in the US

Y = Support free trade agreements sending millions of US jobs to low wage sweat shops in Asia.

X + Y = Democratic Party nomination?

It doesn't add up.
