Here's one alternative to having police (WARNING: Brutal pictures and descriptions at link)

Having to have police sux. I would LOVE a world where people were not violent and larcenous assholes to each other. One based on mutual respect and trust. Alas, we don't have that world. We need grumpy, nosy, sometimes bossy people to protect us from others who would victimize us.

The police need to be peace officers, public safety officers, serving and protecting, not stealing and murdering just like the assholes they are supposed to be protecting us from.

Alas, the existence of these slimeball cops cause some people to question the need for the police. They see the stories of abuse of power and they proclaim that the world would be safer and happier and more just without police.

Unfortunately, they are wrong.

Girl, 16, beaten and burned to death by mob for ‘involvement in taxi driver murder’

A 16-year-old girl was surrounded by a baying mob, beaten to the floor and finally burned to death because of her alleged involvement in the murder of a taxi driver.

According to local reports, the girl was part of a three-strong gang that robbed and then murdered 68-year-old taxi driver Carlos Enrique González Noreiga in Rio Bravo, Guatemala.

But when the three fled the scene, the girl took a wrong turn and headed straight into dozens of angry villagers primed to dish out some vigilante ‘justice’.

I drive a cab for a living. I am hoping to not have to do it much longer, but until that day, I realize I am doing one of the most dangerous jobs in the world in one of the most dangerous cities in the world. If something were to happen to me, for the sake of my surviving friends and relatives, I would hope they find the perp, and that they be punished appropriately.

I would never in a trillion years want this horror for them, regardless of what happened to me.

Vigilante 'justice' is NOT justice. But absent some time of accountable law enforcement, vigilante 'justice' is all that is left.

and yes, we do need police. They have to be accountable to us, the citizens who employ them, but the "fuck tha police" crowd that claims there are no good cops (and yes, I've seen a few) is just misguided and just plain wrong.

I've never been disrespected by the police. Mind you I'm always cordial, polite and respectful no matter the situation. I'm sure that has something to do with it but my nature is to not fight, deny or be an asshole and I'm sure that all helps too. All I know is I don't want to live in a world without cops. Simple as that.

Our township has decided to defund the police. Now I live in 43223, this is real life ghetto. I paid 55k for my house 20 years ago, it was one of the nicer houses in the neighborhood. A home 3 doors down from me recently sold for 30k. the police had a levy a few years back and it failed. They were like, we're desperate, you HAVE to approve the next levy or we're all going to die! They tied it to the fire levy so we would be crazy to vote it down. But we voted it down anyway.

Now they run a three man crew first shift only. If you have an emergency they will send someone from Columbus. If you need to fill out a report, go down to the station. It's not like they were doing anything about the crime besides making reports anyway.

People aren't killing each other in the streets, they're not even driving crazier. Everyone's a little happier because you don't have to worry about the cops hassling you for stupid shit. I would strongly suggest defunding your own police department, it will make your neighborhood more cheerful!
