How much government is too much??

We hear the right-wing say all the time that government is "too big".

Personally, I do not know when government is too big but I know when it is too small. When people are hungry, when people do not have jobs, when people are not adequately educated, when people are not adequately housed, then we do not have enough government.

I might agree with the conservatives that government is too big when it comes to spending on defense, corporate welfare, and give-aways to multi-national corporations. When our troops are spread to all corners of the earth, when big corporations pay no taxes, when politicians have a sense of entitlement, then I would guess that government is too big?

because clearly Republicans have no problem with shoveling money at the Pentagon. It's a question of priorities.

They say they want smaller government, but they always put more people on Uncle Sam's payroll when they are in power. Go figure!

That was Reagan's game.

And a lot of pseudo liberals fell for it too.

Maybe "the problem is not the size" and instead what all of it does, but I still believe that the only possible solution is to cut both the number of laws and government size in half as quickly as possible. Yes, this will cause some discontent, but fix a lot more than that.
