As someone who lived in a state affected by Sandy to those affected by the flooding in Texas...

First to Ted Cruz - FUCK YOU.

And to the rest of the people in Texas - we got your back. You can rest assure that the Democrats will not politics with the help you need. We don't care who you voted for in the last election or what news channel you watch. We kinda wish you'd think about who helped you out when you needed it but won't matter when you start coming up again with crazy ideas about FEMA death camps being built in abandoned Wal-marts and Obama invading your state. (We had a good laugh over that one)

In the end we are all Americans and we need to take care of each other. And I know that the bulk of the Senators and Representatives who were elected by people up here in the Northeast and Mid-atlantic Region - they will not play politics with the help you need. They won't call the Federal Aid you need 'wasteful spending' or 'pork'. They won't try anything sneaky like attach anti-abortion bills or overturn Obamacare with the passing of the Federal Aid that you need.

They'll just vote Yes because you need it.

I just hope that a few of you remember that come next election day.

FYI: 'You' isn't for DUers reading this but outsiders who come here reading this website. I know there are great progressive Texans that are members of DU!

The Republicans have seen how well Christie made all those Federal aid dollars disappear. (Though a few bucks were used to buy support of mayors in some Jersey towns for Christie's reelection.)

So chances are, "a few of us" will remember and be sincerely grateful for the federal aid rendered to our state in a time of great need. There is an unfortunate and continuing tendency at DU to lump the entire population of Texas into the Cruz/Abbott/Perry/Bush/Jade Helm/Secessionist/ right-wing nut case mold, and no amount of griping about it by the liberal Texan DU membership seems to help. Suffice it to say that we appreciate the aid and support, and we look forward to supporting similar aid and support to other stricken areas of the nation, in the future.

Houston elected the first openly lesbian mayor. San Antonio former mayor might be the next VP of the United States. Austin is an amazing home for great music.

Just getting outside of the cities - It's like driving south of the Canal here in Delaware and going inland. It can be pretty darn scary!

oh and the Dallas Cowboys

And you won't get any argument out of me about the Cowboys---not since they became just another Jerry Jones plaything......

Very well said!

Thank you for reminding everyone that there are some of us Texans down here who haven't gone over to the crazies!

We are thankful and humbled by the outpouring of help from our fellow Americans, and we want that help available to EVERY American should that need arise.

how do we hold people accountable for the crazy people the majority of voters elect to their leadership unless they suffer direct consequences for the actions that are taken by their loco leadership?
Simply pointing out the facts doesn't work. "I worked for my SS check - everyone else is a moocher!"

Those leaders, like Cruz, result in pain that is spread to all of us, e.g. the financial losses from the government shutdown he fomented.

I would like to see Abbott required to go individually, hat in hand, to President Obama and to every individual FEMA worker, all of whom he has implicitly maligned (Jade Helm FEMA camps!), and thank them for their help before they actually get to work. The press needs to be there for every minute of it! And 10 minutes of the video needs to run every hour on every FOX affiliate.

I am in a purple state and I think we, too, need to suffer directly and explicitly for our loco "libertarian" leaders instead of always being helped out of our misfortunes by the blue states.

Love the way you take the high road. But I really, really applaud the "Fuck you" to Ted Cruz.

If it weren't for opportunistic sociopaths like Cruz, we wouldn't need to remind people how government should actually function.

Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer charged on MSNBC's "Up With Steve Kornacki" show Saturday morning that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie held Hurricane Sandy relief funds hostage to force her to approve a development plan that overly favored one specific property holder.
