Structural reforms aren’t enough. We must bring fundamental change to the culture of Wall Street, beginning with real accountability. To this day, the Justice Department and financial regulators have done virtually nothing to bring criminal charges or hold leadership accountable. Legal deterrents are critical for improving the culture of Wall Street and showing that fraudulent behavior will be punished. We can solve this problem in a few ways. The first is to replace the leadership at banks that are repeat offenders. CEOs should not remain in charge of institutions that they have failed to manage properly. Second, we must appoint people to positions — attorney general and SEC chair for starters — who will prosecute those who commit or permit crimes. Thus far, settlements have been nothing more than CEOs using shareholder money to buy their way out of jail.
WASHINGTON -- Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley criticized the Obama administration -- albeit not by name -- on Friday for continuing to detain undocumented women and children.
"We should not be in the business of building barbed wire detention camps. Detentions are cruel, costly & against our values-esp for families," O'Malley, who is weighing a bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, tweeted.
O'Malley also tweeted the link to a New York Times editorial published Friday calling for an end to the "immoral" practice of detaining families in deportation proceedings. "Let's lead with our principles & end them," he added in a second tweet.

Congressional leaders just reached a deal on a "trade promotion authority" bill that would give them the power to immediately vote on the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade. This "fast track" authority would deny Congress the ability to amend yet another bad trade deal.
We must stop entering into bad trade deals that hurt middle class wages and ship middle class jobs overseas. And we certainly shouldn’t be fast tracking failed deals.

When I gave up on Al Gore and Elizabeth Warren as actual candidates this cycle, I started researching Martin O'Malley as an alternative. My idea was to go back to either of my first choices should they declare. But the more I learn about O'Malley, the less likely I am to prefer anyone else. Martin O’Malley is the right kind of hawk, a climate hawk. He talks about it as the real national security issue it is and he has actually done something about it, as documented in the link below.
O'Malley is the rare elected official who seems genuinely motivated to address climate change. "I deal with a lot of politicians in my work as a climate advocate," says Mike Tidwell, director of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network. "Martin O'Malley, more than any politician I know, really loses sleep over climate change. He is deeply concerned about climate change and his actions over the last eight years reveal that. He's pushed the envelope more than anyone I've seen. He's the kind of politician where his staff comes in and says, ‘Here's what we propose to do,' and most politicians would say, ‘Let's cut that down a little,' and Martin O'Malley regularly says, ‘We can't do better than that? Push a little harder?'"

The O’Malley-Brown Administration has expanded health care to more than 380,000 previously uninsured Marylanders. It has reduced infant mortality to an historic low, and provided meals to thousands of hungry children as it moves forward toward its goal for eradicating childhood hunger.
