It will be re-branded as the "Helping Americans Become Rich" rule or some other irrelevant label.

(28,498 posts)1. For those DUers, like me, who may have forgotten what the Hastert Rule is...
The Hastert Rule, also known as the "majority of the majority" rule, is an informal governing principle used by Republican Speakers of the House of Representatives since the mid-1990s to maintain their speakerships and limit the power of the minority party to bring bills up for a vote on the floor of the House.

It will be re-branded as the "Helping Americans Become Rich" rule or some other irrelevant label. GOP is very good at branding and re-branding-- not much else, though.

(15,411 posts)3. and everytime they do, the Dems will say "formerly known as the Hastert rule"
more likely than not, they'll keep doing it but won't name it.
I bet our side does it too.

(4,108 posts)4. I don't think the "Hastert Rule" ever really existed to begin with.
Going by how Boehner and co. seem to have abandoned it as of recently with some things that have had to be passed with more Democratic votes than Republican, they don't appear to be too serious about maintaining that "majority of the majority only vote" policy.
