Zephyrhills High teacher accused of putting 'cone of shame' dog collar on students

OK. This is just strange.

ZEPHYRHILLS — A Zephyrhills High School science teacher faces dismissal amid allegations that she used a "cone of shame" dog collar to discipline students.

Pasco County schools superintendent Heather Fiorentino has recommended firing physical science teacher Laurie Bailey-Cutkomp, 47, for putting the collar — the type used to prevent animals from licking themselves after surgery — on at least eight of her ninth-graders on two days in April.

This doesn't physically hurt the kid. It's not like spanking them with a paddle or duck-taping their hands or mouth.

Are teachers forbidden to use any kind of discipline or punishment these days?

People are not dogs?

Those things itch like crazy?

Humiliation?

Possible long term psychological damage from being treated like a DOG?

There are a million other ways to motivate students?

There a almost that many other reasons not to.

Toss the kid out of class. I'm sure there are ways of dealing with an obnoxious kid that doesn't involve pain or humiliation.

It's tempting but it rarely turns out well.

The teacher should be made to wear this during her next performance review - Assuming she still has a job then.

An ad hoc investigatory committee is planning to consider holding hearings to consider thinking about maybe dismissing this teacher.

Actually, I don't know about this county, but there are other states where it really does work in this way.
