(1,968 posts)Vice President Biden late Saturday announced the death of his son Beau Biden. Here is his statement:
It is with broken hearts that Hallie, Hunter, Ashley, Jill and I announce the passing of our husband, brother and son, Beau, after he battled brain cancer with the same integrity, courage and strength he demonstrated every day of his life.
The entire Biden family is saddened beyond words. We know that Beaus spirit will live on in all of usespecially through his brave wife, Hallie, and two remarkable children, Natalie and Hunter.
Beau's life was defined by service to others. As a young lawyer, he worked to establish the rule of law in war-torn Kosovo. A major in the Delaware National Guard, he was an Iraq War veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star. As Delawares Attorney General, he fought for the powerless and made it his mission to protect children from abuse.
More than his professional accomplishments, Beau measured himself as a husband, father, son and brother. His absolute honor made him a role model for our family. Beau embodied my father's saying that a parent knows success when his child turns out better than he did.
In the words of the Biden family: Beau Biden was, quite simply, the finest man any of us have ever known.

(130,869 posts)Former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden has died from brain cancer, that according to a statement from his father Vice President Joe Biden and family.
Beau died from brain cancer. He was 46.

(10,044 posts)Never watch Fox, but was scanning trying to find anything watchable, and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the banner saying that Biden's son, Beau, had died..
Oh Poor Joe, he loves his family so much, and I wonder what this will do to him..
So much heartache.
Rest for Beau, and I hope Joe will find the peace he so desperately needs.....

(130,869 posts)and think about this, VPotus and the family must have known, for some time, that this would happen.

(10,044 posts)Letterman showed a really huge picture of Biden the last night of his show, the first of the politics people, and I was sure he was going to have him on or say something about running....but with Beau on the edge, it could never be.
Now I understand why. Even Obama was low key on the program the week before, and at every appearance he's made in the last week or so. He knew something bad was going to happen soon.
I watched Biden make a speech at the Brookings Institute last week, and he didn't seem like himself. His usual electric smile seemed kind of "phony" if it's okay to use the work in this case, but I felt he had lost something, enthusiasm or something. It was the pressure.
Beau's wife will have it tough, it's hard to explain to kids how a thing could happen to such a good man, but Joe has Jill, and she seems to be the perfect companion to help him over this mountain.
How fitting it happened Memorial Day week, when that holiday falls anywhere from the 25th to the 31st, depending on year.

(58,786 posts)What makes this sadder is the fact that Beau survived the crash that killed Joe's daughter and first wife.
